Well I don't know if it's just me, but I can never manage to scan my clubcard, so the whole process actually takes longer - me waggling my clubcard about at all angles trying to get it to scan and not knowing whether it has or not, asking the checkout person if it has scanned then handing the card over to them to scan. I have used these tills at least 10 times since they were installed and I have never once managed to scan my card!

Its not just you - I have the same problem. Also, with the teceipt machine now on the other side of the counter and partly hidden by bags and oth junk (Tesco stuff , not mine!), I frequently forget to take my receipt - or my Till Spits!!!

Incidntally, did I imagine it or did somebody say that Tesco were having to remove the scanners cos they are at a childs eye level and are an H&S issue? (or is that an urban myth?)

I used to work at Safeway a few years ago, and on the occassions when a customer advised they were short changed, Customer Service would close that till immediately, and do a spot check there and then. To me, that is the best option.

If the member of staff is dishonest, and was using some sort of distraction technique so that you do forget to ask for your cash back when it isnt given to you, it certainly wont be in the till 2 days later when the till is cashed up. However, it may still be there when a spot check is done!! :)

Hope you manage to get your money back.

Well, that's also what CCTV is for. They legally must keep CCTV recordings for 31 days. All it takes is you going to the police and getting a Request To View form, if you're sure and you need to prove your case. I know it sounds OTT, just saying.;)

What law states that shops must keep CCTV recordings for 31 days?

There isn't even a law that requires them to have CCTV, so it was be plain stupid for there to be a law that requires the images to be kept for 31 days.
