Is this yet another example of people failing to take responsibility for their actions, and wanting to blame everyone except themselves.;)
If I asked for cashback and failed to take it, I would be blaming myself for being a stupid idiot, and learn from the mistake.
'Failed to take it' - from where? Out of the till? I'm not really sure the OP is allowed to open the till and 'take' anything... I think they call that 'nicking'.
OP - hope you get the money back; when I worked on the till in Asda I used to forget to hand over cashback all the time, it's really easy to do! Our CS were good at sorting on the spot though. If at first you don't succeed, then sky-diving isn't for you

If any company doesn't care that customers are willing to boycott them, they would deserve to end up in precisely the pickle you describe. A retail business relies on customers - and therefore needs to keep them happy. All of them.
P.S. You do know this is the Rants board, right? :rolleyes:If at first you don't succeed, then sky-diving isn't for you

And, speaking from my experience yesterday getting cashback at Asda, they still initial the receipt and hand over the cash with the receipt. Tesco also did this the other day, and it was a very young girl who served me....0 -

Do you live in the South? There are 5 branches of Tesco I use regularly, all of which initial receipts and none of which ask you to take the receipt yourself....maybe this is being rolled out oop North soon then as it's certainly not in operation in my neck of the woods....0

The checkout has been reconfigured by installing a barcode scanner next to the chip and pin machine - this is so you can scan your own clubcard (assistant won't do it for you). The receipt printer has also been moved so that it is completely out of reach of the checkout operator (where the carrier bags used to be kept), so that you have to take it yourself. It was amazing the number of receipts that had just been left behind.0 -
I used to work in M&S on the food tills and ours was set up so that if the customer paid by card (which they would if they wanted cashback obviously) then the cash drawer would not open unless you had said they wanted cashback. Now I used to struggle to remember to press the button for cashback before it went through, but this was no problem - it wouldn't be on the receipt so there could be no dispute.
There was one occasion where a man asked for cashback and it was on his receipt so it had gone through with the transaction. He came back in the store a few minutes later claiming I didn't give him his cash back. At the time a supervisor was there and just let me give it to him (was only around £20).
It was only when I thought about it afterwards that I realised the cash drawer would have opened and it only opens for a reason - I would have had to turn round and close it without thinking "why has this opened". I still wonder whether the bloke conned us out of £20.0 -
I used to work at Safeway a few years ago, and on the occassions when a customer advised they were short changed, Customer Service would close that till immediately, and do a spot check there and then. To me, that is the best option.
If the member of staff is dishonest, and was using some sort of distraction technique so that you do forget to ask for your cash back when it isnt given to you, it certainly wont be in the till 2 days later when the till is cashed up. However, it may still be there when a spot check is done!!
Hope you manage to get your money back.0
