then they should give you the money otherwise its theft.

Requirements for theft (as applicable in this instance, not generally):

    1. Dishonesty and
    2. Intention to permanently deprive

I am gong to take a wild guess and suggest the OP was less than polite in their conversation in store, something which is guaranteed to get a less than desired response from customer services.

Were you standing behind her?:rolleyes:

Why are you making assumptions about the OPs behaviour? It's extremely rude and shows your ignorance.

OP, did they not ask the cashier if she remembered giving you the cash or not?

Is this yet another example of people failing to take responsibility for their actions, and wanting to blame everyone except themselves.;)

If I asked for cashback and failed to take it, I would be blaming myself for being a stupid idiot, and learn from the mistake.

Because in this case the blame does lie with someone else? When you get cashback in the supermarket, it is handed over with your receipt and your change. The OP didn't fail to take it, the cashier forgot to hand it to him, and he didn't realise until later. I have to admit I did this a few times while I was working at Sainsburys, luckily the customer realised before leaving the store so I could sort it out for them easily. Again, the customer service staff telling you it's your responsibility to take it is a bit silly, the cashier wouldn't have just left it lying around on the till for you to pick up, they would have handed it to you directly. And yes, the tills were counted every night in our store, I have no idea why it would take this long for them to get back to you?

If it mattered that much to you, you would have taken it, no?

If they have no proof that you got the money ie an initialed receipt or similiar then they should give you the money otherwise its theft. Don't wait for them to contact you, get down to the shop and speak to the manager. It doesn't take a few days to tally up a till either.
used to take 24 hours when i worked for asda

They only get done once a week in the store I work in, so if that could be why no one has got back to the OP.

Did you ask the checkout operator if they had your cash (because you had forgotten to pick it up)?

Sainsburys staff arent asked to initial the receipt for cashback now, i initailed it to cover my own back, it was changed but cnat remember when but possibly when they changed the till system so the cashback prompt was removed. Surely the manager could have checked the cctv that covered said till and looked to see if the cashier handed the cashback to you, counting the till shouldnt take 2 days. Ive seen it done in 20 minutes when something similar has happened, but surely you should have been on the ball since its your cashback. Yes i used to work for Mr Justin King in 2 stores and i did forget customers cashback a few times but i did remoind them of the cashback.

This happened to me in Morrisons, was getting out my Christmas party drink money at the time. They told me to call them the next day, I explained nicely that I required the money for that evening and they said to come back at 7pm (just before the party started) I waited about 15 mins while there and a lady came back with my money.

On the other hand my Dad had a similar experience to yours in Tesco they had £20 of his he called back every day for a week and dropped in twice and no-one seemed to know what was going on and they said the till wasn't over - you win some you lose some - I wouldn't have given up as easily as him though :)

Ditto - I once used one of those LINK atms at a small corner shop and only picked up my receipt - left £40 cash in the tray!! It was badly designed, I had my 4 yr old with me and all that but it was completely my stupidity. When asked the shop keeper if anyone had handed anything in - no one had, stupid stupid me!

I found £50 cash in Sainbury's carpark and handed it in to customer services - as it was never claimed got it back last week :)

I once used a link machine but was in such a rush I ran off before collecting my cash! This was a pretty standard design too! Luckily I was in a queue and the person behind was honest and kind.
