was working all last week and am working alot this week ...but htings that have happened ...well on friday i had to do overtime for work due to staff sickness ...recieved a £60 parking fine for my efforts ...here is the letter i have written about the appeal let me know what you think...

I am writing to dispute the above parking fine. I do accept that I was parked without a permit at the time but offer the following reasons as to why this happened on this occasion.

    1) I currently work at a private home next to where I park my car, I am a night shift worker starting at 9.30pm and finishing at 7.30am therefore have no need to use the parking permits granted to the workplace for parking.
    2) However on the morning of 24/07/09 due to the needs of the service I was required to work till 9.45am, I didn’t find this out till early morning so had no opportunity to put a parking permit in the car as I cannot leave the home due to health and safety reasons and the needs of the service.
    3) Unfortunately, due to the needs of the service I had to have the curtains closed so could not keep an eye out for a parking attendant so that I could inform him of the situation.

I apologise for not putting a parking permit in my car at 9.30pm but I expected to finish at 7.30am so didn’t think I would need to. I have however taken on board what has happened and have started to use the permit every night just in case this situation arises again. I would be extremely grateful if on this occasion you could uphold my appeal, as there was no abuse of the parking system intended, it was merely an unavoidable situation that has now been noted and changes implemented.

also what else has happened ...well the problem that brought me back here (i.e the car) has reared it's ugly head again have booked it in to the garage again ...i dont have the money to keep getting this fixed though so we really need to get on top of the finances just incase we need to get a new car sooner rather than later ...

ok have paid some debt off though so that is a good thing atleast

El! So good to see you back - I too have just returned after some time awol. What a pain about the parking ticket - good luck appealing it!

On the tax thing - you can't claim training that qualifies you to run the business but you can claim equipment (including brought into the business) and you can claim insurance, professional fees and (I think) necessary ongoing training. And you can get a rebate if you make a loss on SE income from PAYE.
  • I would definately appeal on the parking ticket front..gits!

hi all sorry havnt been around ...my internet went down ...i never realised how much i needed it i was lost alone at sea for days upon days ...couldnt even use to bl00dy iphone (that's a whole other story) ..i literally went stir crazy and became almost impossible to live with (not sure if all of that was due to internet issues ...a friend (well i thought so) really hurt me as well so i retreated into my cave)

but i am all back wounds licked and healing and going for it again

right parking fine ...got a letter back saying blah blah blah etc ...i dont think he even read my appeal letter so i paid it £30 if i paid within so many days so that is that dealt with

car ...well...the same warning light came on so we went back to the garage and got it tested again it is going to cost well over £400 do i have that money do i heck ...but what is my alternative...so i have borrowed money and will get it done next week...

work has got swine flu and i have to go into the unit with swine flu on friday ...now i actually want to catch this flu in its first wave but not till i come back from Poland and i really dont want to catch it before... but i have no choice i have to go and work in the unit ...

i had a person staying the weekend and they brought a friend with them so hubby and i spent most of the weekend out of the house to give them the space for what they needed this cost us a bit extra but not too much ...i then drove this persons friend to lockerbie so that they could catch up with the rest of their holidays....

erm finanaces well they aint going too good at all mainly due to the car and the parking fine but also because i overspent by about £150 cause i was sooo !!!!!! off with some things ...i know i will have to get that sorted so have sat down with the finances for the next month and have found a way to cut back some more for the next few months to try and make up the short fall the only problem is paying back the money i will have to borrow to get the car fixed

it has all highlighted to me that i really need to get on top of things we will need to buy a new car at some point in the near future so we need to get out of the schtick just now so that we can do that ...

so that is roughly where i am just now ...going to have to get back to it and make that commitment

miz lovely to see you back again have missed you ...and lynz always good to see you ...bob yes the ba$tards got me arrrggghhh ...hypno am going to get onto the H.M.R.C next week i think ...i keep getting asked for treatments but the people cant afford to pay i have done about 2 dozen freebies in the last month ..now this is good in one way for me to keep up with my practise but in another way i dont want to keep giving away freebies cause that doesnt make me money ...is there a happy balance i can strike? and when people say they dont have money i have to admit i am starting to wonder if this is true ...hubby's kinda brother said to me today ...el i need hypnotherapy, n.l.p and reiki so i'll just come over and see you on sunday ...now i know for a fact he doesnt expect to pay ...and being hubby's bother (they arnt reall brothers but as close as ) you would think that is ok i dont mind giving him a session for free ...till you take into account the fact that he has his own garage and has fixed our car for us in the past (not this car) and has sorted our sons's bike and charged us well over the odds ...in fact sons bike wasnt fixed and he had to go elsewhere and pay (slightly less) to get it fixed again ...so there is that part of me that says i aint giving him a session for free ...am i bang out of order?

I can count the number of true freebie sessions that I did on the fingers of one hand......my time and my expertise are worth paying for, and in order for me to be valued for my ability, that means that I need something in return.

Now, that might be cash....or it might be something else - so, for example, I have a friend who does work in my garden (she loves gardening, I hate it) in return for reflexology. Another took me for a lovely meal out.

You could do, "buy 3 get 4th free" or "introduce a friend and get a free treatment"......but that is something different entirely - you are acknowledging a client's loyalty, or drumming up new business, but you are also getting paid sessions out of it at the same time.

Occasionally, I would offer to give a friend or family member a free session if they wanted, but 9 times out of 10 they would pay me anyway, even though that was not the intention - their response being that they benefitted from it so were happy to pay.

When I did extra training for specialist areas, such as maternity training, I gave free treatments in return for those people allowing me to use their details for case studies, but then I was getting something out of it, so that was fine. Even so, all my maternity case studies continued coming to me after the 6 "free" sessions ended, and paid me the going rate for all future sessions!

If your skills were not worth paying for, they wouldn't be asking for them. By all means give them "mates rates" at, say half value, but even then it is really taking advantage in my opinion.

Skill swaps are one thing - expecting something for free is quite another - you are worth more than that.
