Re your start up costs - write everything down - what has come in, what has gone out, so you can see how much you have made or lost.

If you have made a loss, you offset it against other income earned, and the revenue will give you a rebate of tax.

So work out what you "lost" between setting up and 5th April, then tell the revenue. They will be quite quick at sorting out any rebate.

PM me if you need any more help, but any equipment, insurances etc etc can be taken into account, and are very valid expenses!

I entered in all my business expenses AND submitted all my P60s from my various bits of employed work, and they offset one against the other, without any request from me, and gave me a rebate as a result.

Worth a try - you have nothing to lose!

yep hypno i hope you are right ...you are ofcourse it is just something we are going to have to get used to ....we attempted it several times last time but nothing serious ...just right we'll try this but still have chinese etc at the weekend ...so this is going to be an interesting learning curve ...but i am sure it will be worth while ...i am thinking along the lines of if i can only afford this in food per day what make it more valid to spend x amount on a book etc ...is it more important to have my snobbery with books at the cost of my health ...or could i go to the library and get books and eat better ...

if any of that makes sense i dont explain myself very well sometimes

You have to work out what is important to you and prioritise it. Then go down the list and see what you can do as a reasonable compromise eg takeaway only once a week, or getting books from the library, or reducing the number of books you have, or takeaway once a fortnight etc....

Everything has a price - some that you are happy to go without, some that you are happy to reduce, some that you won't be willing to compromise on at all.....

.....but only you can decide and recognise what falls into each category!
