MAJOR UPDATE (I think!)
Sorry will go back and read what people have written but I spoke to the hospital and they said I would have to ask tomorrow - BUT I know this is TMI but I've just had my show! How long on average do you get this before things start (if it's soon then you ladies are good when you put your minds together for positive labour vibes!!!!)You laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same0 -
Been meaning to ask this for a while, but is anyone else suffering from upper back pain? It's between my shoulder blades, and nothing seems to ease it. I'm pretty sure that driving makes it worse and it is just so annoying! Coupled with my lower back pain, it's making me pretty fed up!:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0

Hi Nicky, I can't really speak from experience or expertise at all but I think you really need to face what happened by talking about it and perhaps meditating on it. Then maybe you could also try reading positive birth stories - I'm reading Ina May's childbirth book at the moment and it's really changed my perspective on childbirth - fill yourself with positive thoughts about birth and maybe it will help you stay clam.

Nicki - I don't have any useful perspectives but I'm hoping you can get through everything and this time will be a very different experience for you.You laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same0

Nicki - I think you need to start working through these sooner rather than later. With this being my first I don't really have any advise to offer.:grouphug:0

Nicki, can you make an appointment to see your GP? If you speak to him he can speak to the midwife and hopefully arrange some counselling for you. You should speak to your consultant about it too and make them aware of your flashbacks and decide on how you want the birth to go as well as talk through what happened and how it can be avoided.
If you can't speak to your consultant about it, can you write a letter or can your OH go and speak to them for you?
Most maternity hospitals have support counsellors now I wonder if someone from there can see you?
You have my sympathy, I am no where near as bad as you but I know how bloody scared I am right now and you just sound so much worse.0 -
*Huge labour vibes for Tink!*

Is there anyone you could leave DS with whiles you are at the appointment? A school friend's Mum or someone maybe?
Also have you given any thought to hypno-birthing? No idea if it's your kind of thing or not, but it might potentially help you avoid the terror that you are worrying about.
In respect of the last part of your post, is there any family or anyone who could come and stay for odd days during the holidays to give you a bit of respite? Or could you ask some of your little ones school friends' mums whether they might be able to help out a bit, particularly when your OH is away?
I bought the hypnobirthing book and CD as it happens, but this was before the flashbacks started, and once they did I lost faith it would help. I haven't looked into doing a course though, and don't know anyone who has actually done it.
With my DD, she goes to a special school, so all the mums there have their own very disabled children to look after during the holidays. I only have two friends who would feel confident enough to have her on their own for even an hour or so, and unfortunately one is abroad for the whole of the summer holidays, and the other is going on holiday next week for 2 weeks, then moving 200 miles away in mid August, though she may well help for the in between period a little if she can spare time for packing. My mum and dad have said they will come over for the last two weeks of the summer holidays for moral support and in case I go into labour early. Mum is 80 and has severe angina, and dad is 84 and a complete bedbound invalid with severe osteoarthritis! MIL and FIL can't help.
For next week, all the school friends of DS which I've spoken to are away on holiday. The hospital is about half an hour away, so if I left him at home he'd be on his own for between one and a half to two hours, and I couldn't get back to him quickly. He is 9, but I wonder whether that's just a little too long to leave him on his own with no one close by. It's certainly longer and further than I've ever left him before. Fortunately DD doesn't finish school until the day after the appointment so I don't need to worry about her too.0 -
