EA - i have rented a doppler from ebay and wouldnt be without it - i started trying at 8 weeks and was sucessful in hearing heartbeat at 16 although i am overweight so others might here earlier or later - it depends on the mum and the baby really i think. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BT200-SOUND-FETAL-DOPPLER-RENTAL-HIRE-1-MONTH_W0QQitemZ260369076075QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Baby_Maternity_Pregnancy_MJ?hash=item3c9f34cf6b&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262
Oh cool thanks
I read some reviews of the summer prenatal one, and all the reviews are terrible.
So i had a look around google and found this on amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Angelsounds-JPD-100S-Fetal-Doppler/dp/B000XS987A/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
Its £21 if i buy the gel to go with it.
Out of the 25 reviews only one is bad
Im not to sure, im over weight to but im quite tall so its spread about a bit more(thanks dad for being 6'6"!)
What do you all think? People have said they heard the heartbeat at 9/10 weeks with the angelsounds one

EA- I've got the summer one and wouldn't rate it tb thought it was picking up babys heartbeat but looking back it was probably mine. You can hear the kicks though and that in itself is reassuring. Im 40 weeks pregnant now and i still cant find the heartbeat unless i lye on my left hand side and really search for it. Obviously its up to you but thought id let you know my experience of it.0

EA - we rented one, not sure if you'd get a better quality machine if you did that rather than buy?
We only failed to find the HB once and then it was fine the following day (we had the basic model from the hire company and used it once a week from about 13 or so weeks til about 20-odd. I think we returned it in the end once I could feel Cub moving about)MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

I don't see how it's even in question, Hypno. Placenta praevia isn't something you should mess about with just to placate insurers.
not sure what you mean SS? I'll be having the c-section regardless of what the insurers do or say, it's booked in, my argument is that if they say they cover medically necessary c-sections then they should do so....that cover will only pay for a private room for my 4-5 day stay after the section, the op will happen regardless, and will happen in exactly the same way through the NHS because that's the only way but it's the bit after that i'm fighting Standard Life for.0 -
EA - i saw mixed reviews about angelsounds dopplers etc - i hired one (see the link) which i think would cost about £150 + to buy new because i thaught it uses same technology as ultrasound where as some on the market are simply amplifiers.
I am sure some one will be along with more info than me though - i might have even found out about the doppler i have got from someone on this thread - i cant remember:o
I have just orderd online from dominoes (that shoud cheer me up) has anyone used this service before are they good?0 -
I just can't see how they think placenta praevia isn't an indication for a scheduled C-section, especially after their CEO is quoted as saying they trust the obstetricians to be truthful when saying a procedure is medically necessary.
Edit: naptime in Germany. Keep us updated, please, Hypno

nancmat, if you're going for a water birth do you plan to give birth in the water or get out just before? Maybe ML could help answer?

Yeah i did look into buying it, but at £100+ no way!
The only thing with renting is that i would prob want it to use all the way throughout and that would be £70+ in the end.
Damn, i wish i could just win the lottery

I'm home! Banned from doing anything at all. I can make a cup of tea and that's it, no housework at all, no matter how small. hmmm...
Thursday August the 6th is when I will be meeting my lil lady
Monday and Tuesday at day care, 10am for steroids. Tuesday I get my pre-op. Don't know what time Thursday, will find out Tuesday but I will be at home Wednesday night which is nice.
My consultant was really lovely saying how she didn't want me to feel that she rail roaded me into a section, but she is far happier about me having a plain old elective c section that a trail of VBAC. She then said I would be awake, baby will be placed on my chest as they stitch me up, I will recover quicker and they will make it as trauma free as possible, all nice and relaxed.
Still very scared and panicky but I'm trying to separate what happened last time with what's going to happen, it will be very different. Expect lots of random bouts of pure terror and panic and excitement and obsession about stuff, I apologise in advance while I am still of relatively sound mind (if not body).
So now to think of a name, re-pack my bags again and again, buy some jogging bottoms, get DH to clean the cupboard under the stairs and what not...
This time next week I will be holding my daughter!!! :j:j:j:j:j
Will catch up later girls, sorry, I'm tired and can't remember what I was going to say to folk.
Just catching up
Tia - I think it's fab that you have got a date to meet your lil ladyI really hope you are doing as you are told and not doing anything!!!! I'll say it now, cos I don't know when I'll get back on - I hope everything goes well for you and enjoy the cuddles your going to be getting! x

Jenny - I'm planning to give birth in the water (dive reflex kicks in a baby just swims up to you
) but the book I mentioned has examples of where the mother has used the pool in early labour but then transitioned to land to actually deliver. Either way the water can help - it just depends on the mother and the particular birth experience what happens/what you want to happen on the day.
We've been advised to get plenty of old sheets and towels for the furniture so I guess that helps give you options if you decide at the time to get out for the delivery.
I've read that it's quite common to get out for the delivery of the placenta though.MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!
