That's cool NMS!
It's also my grandma and grandad's wedding anniversary which I think is quite cool. Especially when I found out after I'd booked ours that my mum and dad got married on my mum's grandma and grandad's wedding anniversary too! Quite a nice little family tradition now!
ETA: Off out to deliver some cakes now (in the rain) anyway but will be back on later!0 -
kindofagilr, you might want to first think about how to want to raise your baby. I'm thinking of going with attachment parenting which means I don't need most of the stuff that other people buy. Baby will sleep in bed with us for as long as necessary (although we might get a beside the bed cot as our bed is only a double, this should last until Noogle is 2 years old) - this also means we are not bothering with a nursery for the at least the first year. I'm also going to carry baby in a sling (if possible!) and trying to find a cheap pram just in case that doesn't work out. Obvioulsy still need a car seat. Hopefully will be breastfeeding as well so not buying any of the bottles and stuff so I wont be tempted! Basically trying to minimise the gadgets and stuff we need to buy so Noogle is raised naturally. This is my first though so it may not work out that way!
Thanks for that, it sounds really interesting, but I dont think its something I would be interested in.
Can I ask, are you going back to work after a certain length of time?
I get 6 months maternity and I am not sure the attached parenting would work because of that.
I do know that I would like the baby to be in its own room and in its own cot.
But it is interesting to see someone doing something differnt to what I would do, you will have to keep us posted with how you are going

Grr I am annoyed, OH has just called and he's told me his boss won't give him work time off to come to the midwife! I know its not law which says employers have to give men time off for appointments, but the guidelines do say most will allow him some work time off!
He works for the council and I think they are a joke, he is still coming but he has to use his own flexi, I mean I would understand the normal appointments (like you go every week dont you after a certain week) but the booking appointment and the scans I would have thought he would be allowed to be paid to go.
But no he has to use his own time. Am I making sense lol
I mean I know its good that they are letting him go, but crap that he isnt getting any time credits for any of them and having to use his own
I work for the DWP and I know we give men the scan time definatly!

Nothing new from Skinty or Niknaknoo, then - labour vibes to you both.
Well we are interviewing this afternoon for my maternity cover. I am really hoping that there is someone that will fill me with confidence whilst I am off. Although we won't make the final decision until next week when we finish the interviews.
Kind of- I am with you on that one men should be entitled to time off for MW appointments. My OH doesn't seem to have a problem, but some employers seem to enjoy making life miserable for its members of staff. How come you only get 6months off - or is that how long you are choosing to take? I am taking the full 12 months off and have been saving as much as I can and will continue to do so until bump jr is born.Tegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)
Floyd Peter arrived 9th July 2011 (1 day early)0 -

Sorry your hubbys work is not playing ball. My OH has had to use holidays to make scans and consultant appointments, but i would have thought that local government /council workers would have got better benefits. Hope they are going to be ok with him over paternity pay/leave.0 -

Why only 6 months? You are entitled to upto a year off on maternity - if you qualify for SMP - it's 6 weeks at 90%, then 33 weeks at SMP (£123 per week). The remainder is unpaid.
Hubby didn't get time off for appointments or scans - he either lost pay or made the time up. TBH he only came to the booking in appointment and the two scans, we didn't think it was worth him to come to any other appointments where it was just routine checks.
Oh I forgot - he came to my 16wk appointment so he could hear the heartbeat , but we arranged this during a drop in appointment afterhours, so he didn't loose out.
ETA - everyone typed faster than me0 -
workingmummy Thats what I thought too, I know here (I am government) we give fathers to be time for scans and the initial booking appointment I would have thought the council would have been the same.
Karen1907 I havent really though about it, I know I get full pay for 6 months, what happens after that? what am I entitled to? I dont know if I would want to go back to work after a year off lol
newmoneysaver - I get 6 months full pay, is this right then, I would get 26 weeks at full pay, 13 weeks SMP, then 13 weeks nothing? how on earth would tax credits be caluclated for that period lolDebt £30,823.48/£44,856.56 ~ 06/02/21 - 31.28% Paid OffMortgage (01/04/09 - 01/07/39)

Oooo, 6 months full pay would be fab - I presume that is how it works, but don't really know cos I'm only getting basic SMP
Tax credits scare me - so again, no idea!

I have a appt with the obstetric anaesthetic because of te shape of my back !!!! and i have that appt next week when i will only 20 weeks as well so not sure if that helps.
Oh the shape of your back are they thinking it will be hard for you to have an epidural? I can only think that they want to talk about my options as my last birth i had 3 failed epidurals and has to be put under general anaesthetic for an emergency cesarean section. Just a bit odd as i haven't decided yet if i am def having a section again although i think it is likely. This is my signature!0
