Is anyone still making Kefir? I have only just heard about it and am interested - is it worth doing or was it just a fad?

I am still doing it,I have a lot more energy since drinking it every morning.I decided to purchase some powder from Holland and Barrett called Bioglan they do different flavours,Red berry, tropical and choc flavour.Just add two teaspoons to the kefir and you have a lovely fruity drink,2 tsp is equivalent to 14 portions of fruit and veg.
A friend who has Ms has noticed a difference in her energy levels since she started it a few months ago.My kefir has gone mad and multiplied like mad.Need to find some people to pass it on to.

We make kefir (and kombucha, and ginger beer) both with milk and with fruit juice, which I prefer. (Water-kefir will tell you more about that.) We recently got back into it; I used to make these all the time, then got too busy for a while & my cultures died. I bought some more in just after Christmas & we're in full production again, with three of us drinking the results & feeling very healthy!

Can anyone recommend where to buy some kefir granules? There are lots for sale on ebay but I don't know if they are reliable??
  • After posting earlier this year I bought chuckling goat kefir (very expensive and not particularly pleasant to drink but I did complete the course) and akso a Polish Kefir in Litre bottles from Sainsbury (cheaper, more pleasant to drink, like drinking diluted smooth greek yogurt) Haven't bothered making any though as didn't see any particular health effects

I got some kefir grains from a collegue in my office and I've been doing it for a couple of weeks now. I don't like it very much (nothing to do with anything you buy in a supermarket..) but I want to try for a while to see if it has any benefits...

I'm waiting for some kefir grains to be delivered to try it out. This thread interests me and I'm keen to learn about the benefits of kefir.

Sure to be back asking lots of questions soon as I do my first batch.

When we've inadvertently killed ours, or one of our other cultures, I've bought again from http://www.kefirshop.co.uk - have always been very happy with their service.

Thanks thriftwizard, I'm making kefir now. I might buy some more grains as I have very little and want to make bigger batches, also my mum got interested and I'm taking her some to Spain when I go in December, so I need some more.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference yet as I've been on antibiotics for 10 days now so it's difficult to tell, at least I haven't had any side effects from them.
