Flummaxed glad you got your kefir! I have so many grains now, I don't know what to do with them, just put an ad on gumtree offering some for free. Also as I make my own yogurt I find that I am not using the kefir, so I will let all my grains go.

Alisha what exactly is the difference between kefir and yogurt please? Which is the health giving difference? I love yogurt but have struggles with kefir. Thank you.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Think the difference basically boils down to yogurt has a very limited number of types of beneficial bacteria (3 or 4 different types???). Kefir has a LOT more different types (tens of types).

It's very sour, I add sugar/honey/sweetener to it.

I am trying to train myself to use it straight without adding any sweetener now.

But in a few weeks I am going to have too many grains! I put an ad for free grains on gumtree and gave away some but now I already have too many again!

What can I do with the spare grains? Thank you.

Think you an freeze them Caterina.

I had a go and like you ended up with too many grains. Couldn't get on with it, it made me gag and upset my guts. I do eat a lot of plain yoghurt that I'm now going to try making next.

I ended up giving the my grains to work friends who now also have too many!

You can eat them.. yesterday I made a smoothie (bananas and strawberries) and put the extra grains on it, all blended. I didn't taste different to a normal smoothie made with yogurt.

You can freeze your grains just cover them in a little milk before you do. I reinstated mine after about 2 years in the freezer and they were fine.

Due to illness etc this and last year I neglected my grains and am now grainless but want to restart my kefir making, where did you guys buy your grains?
