Changed my mind, and decided I love playing with Wescot so much thought I'd try to negotiate a slightly larger discount (just for the sheer cheek of it
). Here's my letter.
I refer to a recent letter received from Nelson Guest & Partners, making an offer of settlement of £385.75 on the above account.
You will be aware that I have already made an offer of £250 which is 50% of the actual amount owed on this account. The additional £271.50 is as a result of inflated charges and interest applied by the original creditor, during a period of financial hardship which they were fully aware of. I am not currently in a position to settle this account for £385.75, however I have been offered £300 by my Father to repay this debt. This would be made by 3 monthly payments of £100. This offer is made strictly on the following terms, and would require written acceptance of these terms from Wescot, referring to the following specific terms undernoted.
I wish to clarify this is offered as an ex-gratia payment in full and final settlement of the account. This offer is made on the clear understanding that, if accepted, neither you, the original creditor, nor any associate company will take any other action to enforce or pursue this debt in any way whatsoever, and that I will be released from any future liability.
I also request that, if accepted, you will make an entry with credit reference agency files relating to the above account as having been paid and the account closed.
I require your written agreement of this offer and agreement to the above specific terms within 14 days. If accepted, I will also require payment details to commence the 3 standing order payments. Please note that until such times as written agreement (specifically mentioning each of the above terms) is received, I will not commence the above payments until I have received a letter worded to my satisfaction.
I look forward to receiving your reply.

How exciting - don't tell me things like that. It will take me 20 mins to get myself off the ceiling now!
Still no word from Wanted Down Under, they said we will hear one way or the other in January, so still patiently waiting and hoping our story is unique enough to get us through:D.
Off to buy a few bits at the co-op to cobble together a cut price dinner for 3 tonight. Back with a proper update later.:jLBM 30/6/9 Unsecured debts [STRIKE]£25,323.48[/STRIKE] £0 :T Debt free

Aww your mother in law. They manage to make us feel guilty for violating their little boys. Mind you, I would be the same.
6 months to Australia. I went travelling for a year during my last marriage. I went to Dubai, Saudi, Caracas, Texas, Madrid and Johannesburg. I adored SA.
I knew I would be gone around 2 years, but he had an affair and I came back to my dads haha, but hey. Leaving for good is brave and positive, and its not something I would have considered in my last marriage but would in this one.... but thats by the by.
You have a lovely family and you have made sure you have a bright future. Your mother in law will come round. XTrying to shift that debt!0 -
