Reporo / Pigsback queries

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (and I should have posted this previously before 8 pages built up, but I've been working the past 2 days).
Mobile web is NOT available on o2 PAYG. Please trust me on this, I have just completed an 8 month contract with o2 in Leeds as a technical support advisor and I do know what I'm talking about. It has absolutely nothing to do with settings.
Sorry to sound harsh but whoever was told it was possible was basically lied to. It's not possible as o2 mobile web is enabled on the billing system (if anyone knows telecoms, it's a different GPRS access point). It is not possible to enable this on a pay and go account. Technically it is possible to do with the hardware but it is o2's policy not to allow this (most likely in order to get more people on contract).
Pay and Go customers can access WAP but NOT use their mobile as a modem with a PC (its possible with a PDA but you'll only get wap pages). Since a full mobile web internet connection is required to pass information using Reporo, it won't work. It will never work! This is the same reason you can't use MSN messenger on Pay and Go.
I-mode...don't get me started. It's a totally different form of wap access. It uses neither the Pay and Go 'wap' APN nor the mobile web contract APN. You can only access imode pages (same content for payg or contract). It's not possible to use reporo on an imode phone, nor is it possible to get one 'unlocked' for anything other than calls. I-mode is only on o2 and very restricted.
I'm on o2 pay and go and didn't even attempt to use it. It's nothing to do with the settings - mobile web settings won't work with a prepay sim, simple as that, it won't authenticate. I put a fiver on my voda sim - my 50p DVD is on it's way and my 500 points were credited this morning0 -
That'll explain why it keeps failing for me, then!"I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0

Thanks for the info! I read up a bit about the o2 mobile web stuff, and how it was not available at all on payg. I thught that was the end of the matter but when I posted here there were some people reporting that they had got it to work on their o2 payg, so then I was confused! I do not know the technical details so obviously couldn't explore any further but it seems to be a mixed bag - no rules on what will work for who. Personally, I tried it on my brother's phone (o2 payg) and couldn't get it to work.
I think people on o2 payg may as well have a go I guess, but don't hold your breath! Obviously the advice on this thread cannot be blamed if something has gone wrong with a phone. Its seems unlikely that any problem could not be resolved, perhaps by 'resetting'?! Anyway, I'm not qualified to give technical advice so will stop now....!Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Except for death and paying taxes, everything in life is only for now... The only problem I see is putting in a new sim, will surely make the details Reporo have and Pigsback for mobile numbers not match? Did anyone who swapped sims get their piggypoints?

If you swap sims then you need to enter the different number and set it up again I'd think! I swapped my registered number with reporo and still got my points (but this was swapping to a different phone too).Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. I worked in o2 Technical Support for 8 months and believe me, it's not crap at all. It's cold hard fact, sorry, but I know the systems inside out. Why don't you just call o2 and ask them yourself?
My original post stated that whoever told you was incorrect. I didn't offend you or imply you were talking crap. I have every right to put across what I know to be true based on my working experience. I find you to be very childish by being so rude. I didn't restrict the o2 services, I simply worked with the systems. Believe me, mobile web on o2 Pay and Go is not possible and as far as I am aware will never be. It is a totally different piece of provisioning which is simply not allowed by the billing platform.
I won't retaliate by posting something rude and childish, I will simply re-iterate what most people have already worked out themselves. It is not possible to use reporo on pay and go with o2 as it requires a mobile web connection. Pay and Go on o2 only supports a wap connection and as such you can download the software (just like you can download java games on pay and go) but you will get a load error when it tries to connect.
It is NOTHING to do with settings. Remove reporo from the equation and you still cannot connect to wap on pay and go using postpay settings because they are intended for a totally different billing method. Give it a try.
This is the first time I've been offended on this site and I hope it's a solitary experience. I only wanted to save lots of o2 pay and go customers the hassle and grief (and the wasted cost of data transfer to download the java application) when it simply will not work. Why on Earth would I have cause to lie!? This site is supposed to be about working together - not apart.
*Edit:
o2 Mobile Web is not available on the o2 Pay-as-you-go tariff, only for customers on a pay-monthly tariff.
According to various emails we've seen, this is o2's policy as opposed to any kind of technical limitation.

Im sorry, but i dont have the time to reply tonight, with my full case, im on and off the PC tonight, but i will give my full reasoning for the way i spoke tomorrow.
Firstly, i will just show you this post:mich_city wrote:I used it with O2 pay and go.. already had the WAP/GPRS settings (sent from the O2 site) after unlocking from vodafone - nokia 3200
Didn't have to do anything, just received the file from them and installed it easy enough.. worked first time of trying!
Can you explain the post above any many other people that have got it to work?kathfisch wrote:I thught that was the end of the matter but when I posted here there were some people reporting that they had got it to work on their o2 payg, so then I was confused!

You are just saying that it will not work, so why have people reported that it will, including myself (below: your post)Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (and I should have posted this previously before 8 pages built up, but I've been working the past 2 days).

More to come tomorrow0 -
It's not possible, it is a limitation of an APN (access point name). On pay and go it is payandgo.o2.co.uk and this is in the settings for WAP only.
For postpay it is wap.o2.co.uk (confusingly). This is the FULL web connection.
Postpay settings do not work with prepay sims as they refer to the wrong APN and therefore will be rejected by the system. I won't go into the individual IP/DNS or system settings as they are not relevant to an end user.
Prepay customers can install reporo. They can't buy anything. It's not a case of me arguing with you (which is the last thing I want to do) or me wanting to prove a point. I worked there, and I know how it works. Ring o2!
I have no idea why you are being so obtuse and rude, is it possibly because you are the OP? You weren't to know the technical limitations of mobile web vs WAP on GPRS and nor are 99% of the people on here. I was just sharing what I know to be 100% fact. And now I'm wishing I hadn't bothered. Please, re-read my post and realise I am not up for an argument I am defending my technical and corporate knowledge against your very rude barrage of non-information.0 -

KittyKate, many thanks for your input on this topic, it is valuable to have 'insider' info, as it were.
Matt, you have helped a great many people with this thread and I've no doubt you also know what you're talking about.
The facts remain:
*Numerous sources say that o2 mobile web will not work with o2 payg and, as reporo relies on this, it too will not work.
*Equally, there are users stating that they have o2 payg and have used reporo with no problems.
There is clearly much confusion and probably quite a complex technical situation at the heart of all this. Surely, then, ridiculing anyone's input when it is helpfully meant is not going to help anyone get their pigsback/reporo points (what this thread is for).
I do not have the technical knowledge or experience to try to help solve the confusion but hopefully everyone with some info can work together to try and resolve it.
I think the argumentative bug has migrated from the pigsback thread to this offshoot :rolleyes:Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Please don't give up! Your info is much appreciated by me for one and if it helps us come to a resolution then so much the better!
