Morphy Richards Intellichef Multi Cooker

My gut feeling is that you can't shallow-fry something to the point of crispiness in a receptacle with a lid. The steam will build up inside and the resultant moisture will cause your potatoes to soften rather than crisp up. You could leave the lid open, though, as recommended in some of the recipes on the French Delicook website, and this might work (it wouldn't be any different to cooking in a pan on the hob). Mind you, the Intellichef has high sides compared to a frying pan, so there will still be more-than-desirable levels of steam at potato-frying depth, and the results may still not be crisp enough.
I wouldn't dream of deep frying in it. I imagine that doing so against the manufacturer's advice might be dangerous. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Oh dear! The responsibility! I do hope you like the Intellichef.
I'm now feeling a bit guilty for not updating my Bibliobubble blog. To be honest, most things I cook seem to be variations on the same sort of thing, which is based on putting random ingredients into the pot and cooking until they are done on whatever setting seems appropriate. There are limits to how much you can say about cooking rice, for example, or plain unadorned chicken, or steamed vegetables, or odds-and-ends soup, or stir-fries, or throw-everything-in-the-pot stew.
Not to worry! I think what I meant is your blog was the best user review I could find for the Intellichef, therefore providing valuable info on how one works and what I could expect of it. It is actual documented use of one and not just 'great machine!' etc. A very informative site! Plus recipe ideas!
My Intellichef has now arrived and I used it for the first time today. Beef stew. Unfortunately, due to a cold, I couldn't taste it very well, but my husband said it was good! I think I am going to like this gadget!
I'm still coming to grips with the controls and couldn't figure out how to put less time on a cooking cycle than the default time. I was in a bit of a hurry though, and didn't read the directions very well. If I remember right, the FRY cycle is 5 - ? minutes but mine automatically came up as 45 minutes or so and I could only figure out how to make it more time instead of less. Guess I need to read the directions a little better!0 -

Thank you! I think I might know what I did wrong, but I need to experiment again to see for sure.0 -
I'm trying to find the Intelichef on the site someone mentioned as I think those prices are very competitive but don't seem to be able to do a search, can anyone tell me how to do it or let me know the current price of the Intelichef in Costco?0
-
Sorry, but I'm not sure which site you mean, so I can't suggest anything. Do you know what the site was called? (I can't comment on Costco because we don't have one anywhere near where I live.)
I bought my Intellichef at Amazon -- it was reduced to £99 at the time, which seems quite a bargain in retrospect, now that their price has rocketed to £133-ish.
The Morphy Richards web site doesn't seem to have any discounts on it at the moment either (they did when I bought mine, although their discount wasn't as competitive as Amazon's at the time). Was this the site you were thinking of? If so, the Intellichef page is at:

I have been looking for the intellichef in costco but have never found one- been looking for a few months. Ring your local store to see if they have any- all mine dont.
Sainsburys have it at £ 126 delivered free- seems to be the cheapest at moment until Amazon reduce the price- but I have been waiting a while for that too !0 -
Sorry for the confussion, I was referring to the posts on the first page of this thread about Costco:
[QUOTE
This is only £65 inc VAT at Costco at the moment!
[/QUOTE]bought one for £54.97 plus VAT in Costco at Trafford Park today. It was the last one unless they've got more in the warehouse.
Btw, I have noticed that Costco is not a normal website, is it only for businesses? or some kind of membership?0 -
Ah! It all becomes clear now... :-)
Costco is a "cash and carry" sort of thing, so it isn't open to the general public wandering in off the street, and you do have to be a member. That's all I know about it, I'm afraid. I'm sure there will be plenty of posts about Costco in other parts of the MSE forums, though -- you could maybe try using the MSE forum-search function to find out? Someone on one of those threads might be able to help you.
By the way, the price quoted on that post last year was so ridiculously cheap (compared to the RRP of £149) that I can't help thinking it was Costco clearing out their stocks. If that's the case, I wouldn't set my heart on buying one from them at that price now, as they must have cleared their shelves months and months ago! :-)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. You could try Ebay. That's where I bought mine...just buy at your own risk, of course!0

Many thanks to Avocet for her excellent blog, your recipes are proving indispensible.:A I want to try the slow cooked lamb casserole soon, but I notice that there is no liquid apart from a glass of red wine. Does this make enough sauce for 6 people? Only my people like a lot of sauce with their casseroles.
I did the tuna spaghetti from the MR book today and I stopped it 6 minutes before time because it was getting rather dry. It was still delicious though this recipe says it serves 4, but 2 of us ate it all for lunch!
Does anyone else find it difficult to hold the cook time and press the hour/minute buttons at the same time? Maybe it gets easier - hopefully.0
