thanks for that terra, i will experiment, i read the french versions recipe's, and decided about an hour ago to make some onion marmalade, its now bubbling away in the intelichef, i'll let you all know how it all turns out, (though googles translations were'nt brilliant, the french version has a "grill" on it, and a location "simmer" i took these as fry and slow cook, i hope i was right0

How did the onion marmalade work out? I think you are spot on with the translation of settings -- "mijoter" (the Delicook setting) means "to simmer" and, as far as I can remember, a slow cooker is a "mijoteuse" in French.
I made a cheat's version of caramelised onions in the Intellichef last week while I was cooking sausages in the main oven. I set the Intellichef to Fry-Vegetables for ten minutes, put in a splash of olive oil and some sliced onions, cooked them for five minutes then added some caster sugar and black pepper, stirred it all together, then let the cycle finish. As an afterthought, I then added balsamic vinegar and put the machine on to Fry-Vegetables for a further five minutes, stirring occasionally. (If I were to make it again, I would set the timer to fifteen minutes from the outset.) It all worked fine, and the result tasted great with the sausages.
Terra_Ferma (re: Silver Spoon comment) -- No, not brave! I cook like that myself, randomly chucking handfuls of things into pans/oven and taking them out when they are done. I love reading recipe books, and have hundreds of them, but very seldom actually follow a recipe.
By the way, I was thinking of buying a replacement bowl for the Intellichef, just in case something bad happens to this one, or so that I can cook two things in quick succession without first having to transfer the contents to another dish. The Morphy Richards site sells it for £12.38, which seems rather good value given its amazing quality. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Always worth keeping an eye on the MR website for their special offers, I got one of the big steam irons there for just under £35, free postage and very quick deliveries.

silly, silly, silly me,, i thought my onion marmalade would turn out like orange marmalade, but taste of onion, i was looking forward to having it on my toast, but it turned out a mushy mess, i guess thats how its supposed to be though. i think i'll have it with sausages, it tastes nice enough, i dont fancy cooking the "consumed catalan" off the french recipes though, it looks like its name0 -
I wrote a lovely long reply with lots of thanking and agreeing and with a couple of my own more recent experiences. It disappeared into the ether! Never mind, I'll pop back again when I can face re-writing it. Keep this thread going guys. I'm starting my Xmas leave soon and looking forward to lots of cooking - any cake baking experiences yet?
PS - Dan, annoying rim - damp paper towel and wooden kebab stick.0 -

I'm going to have to revisit the Delicook site now, to investigate the "consumed catalan"...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I'm sure it will taste great with cheese and biscuits, or Welsh rarebit, or cold meats, or pate, as well as the sausages. In fact, anywhere you might consider chutney, onion marmalade is a yummy alternative!

i printed off all the american recipes at work today, 60 pages, but forgot to bring them home, better have another look tonight to see what i'm having for dinner0 -
tonight i tried tilapia with pilaf rice off the american menu, i used salmon steaks instead of tilapia. everything was cooked perfect, but the rice was very bland, i will try it again but instead of 3 cups of water, i will try 3 cups of veg stock, or fish stock to give the rice a bit of flavour0

The salmon sounds nice. I might look up that recipe and try it later in the week -- given what you say about the blandness, I'll add lemon juice/zest and some fresh herbs to the rice, I think (depending on what else goes into it).
I have just put a casserole sort of thing into the Intellichef for tonight's meal. Chopped some lamb fillets and browned them in olive oil on the Fry-Meat setting, then added some spices (ras-el-hanout for a touch of Moroccan exoticism). I thought I had some preserved lemons hanging about somewhere, but I can't find them, so the dish isn't going to be quite as exotic as I originally intended! Threw in an assortment of casserole vegetables (red onion, leek, carrot, swede) and a carton of passata, stirred it all up, and set it to Stew for a couple of hours. I'll adjust the seasoning later, maybe adding some fresh coriander, and we'll eat it with cous cous.

Yesterday we had leeks and potatoes chopped up with a bit of butter and baked for 45 mins - very tasty.
Saturday we had chicken with new potatoes and mixed veg. Done with the slow cooker for 5 hrs - needed a bit longer really as I had to boil the new pots for ten mins to make them soft enough to eat.
Hoping to try a lemon cake today so will report back if it is nice (if I get around to doing it :0)MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0
