Well I filled it all in, and I was shocked by the amounts they said were reasonable for a family our size to be spending on things like food and fuel. They are way more than we spend! anyway, next stage is to have a telephone conversation with an advisor, and they are only open 8am-8pm, so I will have to make sure to be home in time to do that tomorrow. Good night all!

The allowable budgets for a family of your size will be what gives you the breathing space and will make you feel as though you have your life back I guess, as it will allow you to give the twins money for lunches rather than for them to pay for their own, and will allow you to run the car instead of be forced to sell it etc.

I hope that you are able to speak to them today, and that if it is appropriate, it can all be set up very quickly for you.

    Good luck xx

Well that was disappointing. After filling all the details into the debt remedy online thingy last night, I rang for the telephone appointment this evening and was told that as most of the debt is in my name only, rather than joint names, and that as my earnings are higher than OH's, our situation was "too complicated" for the CCCS Debt Remedy people to deal with.

They gave me another number to phone, another department of CCCS, which I did and after being on hold for 15 minutes, I then spoke to another nice lady and gave her all the same information again! Bonkers that they can't share computer systems within the CCCS. I also had to give her our full names, dates of birth, address etc, which I didn't feel entirely comfortable with given that it's meant to be an anonymous service. Now someone else is going to ring us next week.

I remember from when I rang them 3 or 4 years ago that the CCCS is not really set up to help people who don't fit the classic employed or benefits pattern. A mix of employment and self-employment completely throws them.

Anyway, I don't mind too much as I don't really believe the solutions to our problems are going to come from someone else. It is really for me and OH to find the way out of it ourselves. So on that note I will mosey into the kitchen and see if any miracles have occurred today.
