Thanks wordsmith and buddiebabe
The part-time job could be interesting - I'll be working for a Green MEP promoting his work and keeping in touch with campaigns in Surrey and Sussex. It's home based and flexi-time and should allow lots of travel across the region, getting out and meeting people, which I enjoy. I was attracted to it because it's a small salary for doing pretty much what I do anyway!
But it's only viable if I get more well-paid work. Come Monday I will try to get some sort out a CV and send it to people I've worked for before.
Tomorrow is my last day at my freelance job and I will be sad to leave. I've enjoyed it and hope I might get more work there in future. But there's nothing immediately.
Being at home for a short while will be good anyway, as there's lots of difficult family stuff going on. My parents continue their slow decline and things with OH have reached a new low. (Don't ask about that as he doesn't like me writing about it on here.)Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

Despite things being generally dire, I have two very good pieces of news.
My Dad is paying my DD's university fees! So she will only have to borrow for her maintenance, part of which she gets as a grant anyway.
I did explain to him the MSE view that it's better to take the loan etc etc, but he said he'd saved the money and it was important to him to pay it. So that is fantastic, she will start life with £27k less debt than most graduates.
Also, he is buying me a car. He had offered before and I refused, as i can't afford to run a car. But with my parents so frail I think it's worth being able to pop over there every day. It's ten minutes in a car and much less hassle than taking the train, which I've been doing only once or twice a week.
I don't know how I'll afford it but I think it has to be done.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Two bits of very good news indeed. I am totally with you about the car - it is beyond important that you can get to your parents easily. You will find a way of paying the running costs. And it could open up other possibilities re jobs.

Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -

I agree re the car. I could not live without my car with my mum being ill as I would need to get a bus, train and 15 minute walk to get to her whereas car is 10 minutes.
My DD has decided not to go down the university route despite having 7 highers (A level equivalent) at A,B and C level and has managed to get herself an apprenticeship with our local council. I am delighted with this as it means she will be earning straight off and by the time her friends come out of Uni she will be earning about £25kand fully qualified as a painter and decorator. Best bit will be that she will have no student debt

By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.000 -
Thanks all. Brilliant news about your daughter - good for her. One of my twins wants to go to university and the other doesn't. I've got very mixed feelings about the value of it.
Strange day today - Dad was admitted to hospital but more because mum can't cope any more than because his condition has really deteriorated. Mum also admitted to hospital with possible mini stroke. I am so glad my London job ended on Friday so I'm around to help out.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
