Sea, it definitely puts everything into perspective. I said to my friend the other night that the trauma of my divorce pales into insignificance in comparison to what I am going through with my mum. I wouldn't have it any other way though. Hopefully your dad will get a place ASAP and thoughts are with you and your mum. Take care xx5 Year plan. Thanks all.
We finally got dad into a nursing home today. It seems OK, and much nicer for him to be in his own room than on a hospital ward as he has been since Sunday. The staff seem nice. But I felt very sad when I left him this evening, a nurse having taken five minutes to answer his bell and a poor demented lady shouting away a few doors down.
Mum has a brain tumour but the cancer seems not to have spread, we will learn more about the treatment plans tomorrow.
I'm not thinking about money for now - luckily, as i'm not earning any either (I have postponed the start of my new part time job). I bought the youngest two children dinner at a Chinese takeaway tonight as I'd been out all day. I had to persuade DD that taking her pet rat into a food outlet was not a good idea.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

Difficult times Sea. All you can do is take it step by step.
As Beanie would say "keep on plodding".

Am praying that things turn out all right for your parents.
I am having a little faith and hoping your OH can step up and help financially.I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

OH has been earning a bit lately - he's done some gardening and cleaning and sold some old artwork. So he is making an effort. I've encouraged him to look at the job centre in the hospital but he ruled that out as being only for medically qualified people, which I know is not true.
I've got to catch up with council stuff today so will not go and see mum or dad til the afternoon. That feels strange after being at the hospital pretty much all day every day this week. My sisters will go and see dad this morning and make sure he is OK at the nursing home.
Next week I'm a witness at a Public Inquiry into a planning issue. I will be cross examined by barristers. I am terrified. So there is a lot of preparation to do for that.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
As others have said, it certainly puts "stuff" into perspective.
I'm obv not about on MSE much, but am thinking about you, and you know where I am if there is anything I can do.

lovelybirchtrees! How nice to hear from you! How are you?
I've been at the hospital most of my waking hours this week. Mum is having test after test and while she does not know (or is not telling) the results, it looks pretty serious. Meanwhile Dad has become disoriented and confused. We are trying to get him into a nursing home, I never imagined it could be so difficult! Fingers crossed he will get accepted by one tomorrow, so he can at least be in one place and get to know the people.
It's very sad but certainly takes my mind off my own trivial problems and is curing me of any self pity.
I'm astonished that you can describe your problems as "Trivial", given recent events. I hope OH is being supportive and looking after the children, the shopping, the cooking, the laundry, the cleaning, the gardening, having your supper ready when you come home with a nice bottle of wine, and the rest of the housework without complaint. So nice to have a doormat to come home to, I always say! :rotfl::rotfl:0
