  • Hi Seaxwyn,

so sorry to hear your news, dreadfully sad and very mixed when you know the battle that was ahead with the cancer and that someone is suffering.

Thinking of you and your family and sending you lots of love.

Sorry only just checked in. So very sorry to hear your sad news. It is hard either way isn't it. Whether the death is sudden or prolonged, they are still gone when they go.

Take your time and can I gently point you to the guide on the main site, about what to do when someone passes.

    hugs mate so very sorry.

Thanks everyone for your kind messages. It is a strange time. Very sad that my mum is gone, she was a really wonderful person (if difficult in some ways) and I will miss her loads. But I can't feel too sad about her sudden death as the prognosis with her cancer was bad and she was dreading the treatments and hospitalisation. Dying at home was much more what she wanted.

Dad is bearing up well. He is a very resilient man. He is throwing himself into thinking about the funeral and arrangements. He has asked me to bring him a dictaphone, I wonder what he is going to dictate!

I decided to give up a freelance job, which is a shame as I was really looking forward to it and it's a place I'd like to work again. They were very understanding. So now I have plenty of time to devote to sorting out mum's affairs and being with dad.

My sister gave me some money to offset my lost income, for which I am really incredibly grateful. It was enough to pay off my overdraft so for the first time in a decade, I am overdraft-free. Looking at my debt table is weird as now there are only four debts! Three credit cards and a loan, which will be gone in 4 months. I am determined to keep both my current accounts in credit if I possibly can. At the start of this year I had eight separate debts so things are really heading in the right direction.

My mum's death has helped put another perspective on things too. I've spoken to so many far-flung relatives and old friends, who all say how important she was to them, yet she barely ever saw them! Friendship is more precious than anything and so easily wasted. My best friend, who I see about once or twice a year, has invited me to go and spend some time with her in Italy towards the end of August and I really want to do that if I possibly can. Another priority is to give the children, especially my 11-year old son, as good a summer as I can, so I must try to find a cheap holiday option that will appeal to him.
    Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.62

Is it too late to do the sun tokens for this year? Lovely of your sis to help you out like that, certainly takes a weight off your shoulders.

Hope things go ok for the funeral and that. And yes friends are so very precious as is family. I am really feeling that at the moment being on the other side of the world from most everyone I hold dear.

Hello, Seaxwyn. Just to let you know you are still in my thoughts - it's a hard time, but I hope things are going as well as they can do. I am sure you are a huge comfort to your dad - I hope you are getting lots of support, too.
