I was going to suggest online as well. But also if where you work is a posh area, do they have posh charity shops as well. You might get something to where in there, or maybe the luggage even..

Hiya! I've bought a suit. It's not very nice but it will do. And I borrowed a suitcase from my mother. Now thinking I need some kind of handbag....
Anyway, we're off to Italy tomorrow. Isn't going on holiday stressful? I've had to work twice as hard as usual and still need to clean the house and do all sorts of little jobs before we can go. Oh well - not complaining - this time tomorrow I will be up a mountain.

I'm back from a lovely holiday and just a tad depressed to be back to work and the usual worries.
I've just had my first ever experience of being declined for a credit card. I applied to Abbey for a 0% BT offer and got declined, so I'm stuck with my best deal being 6.9% LOB on my Virgin card. I know that's not bad compared with rates some people have to pay so musn't grumble.
One piece of good news - the tax credits people have decided to pay me £337 a month until further notice!
Otherwise, no real change in our circumstances, OH received some back pay but I don't know if it was all he is owed. He has no work booked at the college, which is worrying as for the last two years Oct and Nov were his busiest months. He has missed a few payments and I realised that he doesn't have the faintest clue what direct debits go out of his account - there aren't many and they aren't big but he doesn't even know if he pays the car insurance yearly or monthly, for example. After rallying a bit on holiday he has slumped into the same passivity as before and I don't know what to do to help him.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Welcome back - I am glad you have had a good holiday.
Sorry you have been rejected for the card, I was going to just put "welcome to my world" but thought that sounded flippant, so will say "welcome to my world" in that "I know how pants that rejection feels" way, and hope you know what I mean!
As for OH, I really wish I could suggest something to help, but all I can come up with is the way that I deal with it, which is to take on all the finances myself, I have all my OH money coming into my accounts, and I arrange every payment, giving him "permission to spend" or "pocket money" as and when we need it.
I know that one difference is that your OH is not earning at the mo, but perhaps not having any access to money might help him realise that he HAS to go and get some work.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
