Oh god, a suit _pale_ ... I wear jeans to work in, cos I sit on the floor ....in summer I can get away with topshop light cotton trousers at £7 a throw .... this conference is full of creative types, right? I bet you can be creative in a :money:sort of way.
Feeling a bit punchdrunk, just wanted to play with the smilies, sorry! You have to feel comfortable in what you wear, not just physically but mentally. Go for what's right for you, Seaxwyn.

I usually work in jeans too, but these conferences are not creative but medical types. A whole new world for me -and they seem very conservative. Very male dominated so the women go in for power dressing in a big way. Two of the women I work with are Italians and boy, do they go OTT with the spike heels and big hair. I could never look like that.
My anxiety about the suit issue doesn't take away the excitement that I am going abroad! First to Germany then to Chicago! Woo hoo! A big unexpected bonus of this temp job I thought would be so dull.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Oh!!!!! Well, thats different - those are two countries where I imagine uber medical power dressing. Go the whole hog ....
Fantastic travel opportunity, kiddo!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Great news on the tax credits.
How about somewhere like Debenhams or Frasers for a suit with all the little in-house boutiques. You could maybe mix and match a jacket and trousers / skirt from a couple of different labels to get a perfect fit? And as Hypno says there are lots of sales on.:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -
Thats a good idea of kissjenn's ... Seaxwyn, hope you're making progress on that. And please tell me your passport is up to date ....2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Funny you should mention House of Fraser, kissjenn, as I went into one of those last night. Perhaps I picked a too affluent area (just by the bank of england) but the prices were eye-watering. There were some lovely suits in Hobbs but they would set you back £300 or more. I have bought one in M&S but I don't like it much so going to look in Dorothy Perkins today (those are the only shops round here). I've also realised I will need to buy some luggage. Can't travel with my boss with a scruffy rucksack or ripped sail bag.
Karmacat, my passport still has six months to run... which means that I will have to get a new one between coming back from Dusseldorf and going to US. You have to have six clear months to get into the US, which effectively means a ten-year passport is only valid for 9.5 years. Grrrr. These blimmin' business trips are setting me back a fair bit.
Just had a phone call from my friend in Liguria, who we are going to visit in just ten days time. The place sounds lovely, I am so looking forward to it. But it is 30 minutes stiff hike up a mountain from the nearest road, so I better check we all have adequate footwear for the large amounts of scrambling we will be doing.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Just read in hypno's diary she has paid off £30k in the last year. So I checked my spreadsheet and in the same period, I have INCREASED my debt by £1111. How pathetic. That kind of backsliding ends now.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Sorry about the Fraser's expedition. Thought it would be a lot more reasonable than that.
The hol sounds good...loving the idea of being off the beaten track as long as your not expected to get back on said track every day!:A Let us be grateful to people who make us happy: they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. Marcel Proust :A0 -
Debenham's is certainly better value than that! I've bought a lovely skirt (wedding) and a simple, hangs-well black dress (funeral) for £25 each there, and a good quality wool jacket (oops, thats when I was rich back in the 90s - paid £70 for it then!2023: the year I get to buy a car0
