Glad you managed to get the items listed on ebay and that some of them are being watched already! I've not listed anything for over a week and a half :o just cant find the motivation or the time!

That's great about having such a nice day and seeing the book written by your dad must have been such a nice surprise.

Oh happy day! The lovely Tax Credits people have deposited £921.72 in my account. I've also sold a book on Amazon for £50 and best of all, OH has been asked to do a painting for one of his old clients. Probably a one off but it has really cheered him up. Also I have got some leads on photo agencies that would take his work. Hoorah!

He has taken the kids down to the seaside for a couple of days so I'm all alone in the house, but sadly can't relax as it's a complete tip. My dad kindly invited me round for 'a coffee and a biscuit' but I declined saying I was going to clean the house, so I had better get on with it.

Of our 11 items on ebay, five have watchers and one has two bids (£1.80). I hope at least a couple of the things will turn out to be worth a tenner or so each.

Good news on the tax credits - last year, they were good to me when I declared "actual" earnings, so I am not surprised they paid you this quickly. It is a good amount so hopefully takes a little pressure off you this month!

Well done on the TC rebate Seax, you definately deserve some good luck... and great news on OH's work! Has he got any further with getting any of the wages he's owed yet? Do enjoy a bit of relaxation while you have an empty house though, even i its just a long bath or a couple of hours with a book! You definatley deserve it!

I forgot to mention my big worry. I have to buy a suit! I finally can't put it off any longer, I have to attend a conference for my new employers and a suit is de rigeur. Where do I buy one? I've made half-hearted efforts before, in Tesco and Dorothy Perkins, but they never fit me. I have broad shoulders and a short torso and any jacket is guaranteed to look like a cardboard box on me. Help!

    Hi Sarah! Thanks for de-lurking!

He hasn't got his pay from the college yet but it's had a good effect on him, he is now hopping mad and isn't going to take it passively any more. But realistically, I don't think he will get the money til next term starts (in October) as they have a rubbish system where the contract is made with each separate course leader, rather than with the college, and of course all the teachers are off on their three-month holiday no!

So the tax credits refund is extra welcome as it means we don't have to worry about the holiday and about the fact my freelance earnings will be low in August.

I know they can be quite expensive, but have you tried Next? They do petite, so should cater for your shorter torso....

Re the suit - the sales are on now, so you could look at lots of places that would normally not get a look in. Are you absolutely sure it has to be a formal suit? Even in my "pinstripe" profession, we can get away with a whole lot more, dresswise, than we could have done even just a few years ago.

Is it something you will only wear once?

What size are you, and when do you need it for.........?

I do think a suit is required unfortunately. Not for everyday, really just for two conferences I have to go to - one from 8-11 Sept and one from 30 Oct-1 Nov. But I would get other use out of it. My size is problematic - I'm either a 12 or a 10 depending on the brand. Or probably a 12 bottom and 10 top, apart from my massive shoulders! I swear, anything that fits my shoulders is too big in every other dimension!
