Besides which, quite a lot of the debt will be gone by the time we get married, my OH's debt will almost all be gone (as he's paying massive chunks off his every month) and mine will be at least half of what it is now.

I'm of the impression that you can't put life off forever, and I qualify in a year's time so my salary will double which should help with the remaining debts.

Maybe that's just me living in a bubble :D x

Hello! Just had a quick read through your thread - keep up the good work! It's brilliant you've paid off 5% of your debt. As you'll see from my sig, I have more debt than you (actually it's joint debt) but I'm in pretty much the same boat - planning to be DF when we get married and also guilty of having about £5k stashed away for the big day!

Good luck with the spending diary! You'll be amazed, especially if you like a challenge :)

    Thanks Poddle911, we'll get there! :D

I think it's actually quite motivating having the wedding there as a date to aim for, and I just don't want to put off being married for the sake of paying off debt. It sounds selfish, but we've both worked long and hard to get qualifications (hence the debt) and had no fun for the past 5 years, so I think we just can't wait any longer.

You've done so well, you've paid off loads, well done! I've been a bit slow on the debt free challenge in the last week or so, but since 13th July I've done 5% so hopefully I can make that 10% by the end of August. At least its going in the right direction anyway! :D xxx

    OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!!! :j:j:j

We went for dinner at my parents last night, and after dinner my dad said that they had decided to give us our wedding present a year early...and it was a cheque for £2,500! He said that they wanted £500 to go towards my dress, and the £2,000 to go towards a honeymoon!:j

I am sooooo over the moon, we are so grateful to them. It means now that we can actually have a honeymoon as it was looking very doubtful with the way things were going.

Now with an extra £500 towards the wedding fund, we have just under £2,000 to go, so we think we'll be there within 6-7 months (I put away £200 and OH puts away £100 per month), which means we can start hitting the debts hard and fast and may actually achieve debt free by the end of 2011! :T

I am so beyond happy right now, I love my parents to bits for doing this for us. I don't think they'll ever know how much this means to us.

Plus exactly one year today I will be getting ready to go to the church, as it's exactly one year today! :D I can't wait! :j x

Yes its weird isn't it? I was just telling my cousin yesterday (who's going through a rough patch at the moment) that whenever things look bleak there must be something good round the corner because life really is a rollercoaster (Ronan Keating is playing in my head!). :j

Things certainly seem to be looking up. It means we can look at honeymoon brochures now without worrying about how we are going to pay for it (and actually look seriously rather than "if we had money we'd love somewhere like this..."). Before we had that gift it was looking like an overnight stay at Butlins for us :rotfl:

Maybe I just might manage the challenge I set myself of being debt free by the wedding after all! :T x

    Thanks Flower08!

Well I definitely need to step up the pace on the old debt-busting! Its been a while since I've made any real dents. We're going to have another declutter of the house tonight (I bet you're wondering how bad can it be?! :rotfl:) so will see if anything else emerges!

I've got a few bits of old gold jewellry that I'm tempted to sell as well, as I never wear them, but am not sure on the best way to do it. Not sure about these adverts that claim to send you a cheque. I might have to look into it some more.

I do definitely feel like some of the pressure is off now, with a honeymoon all paid for. Ooh and I conquered my fear of getting my ears pierced at the weekend! At the ripe old age of 25 I finally decided it was time to stop being silly and just do it! It was limiting my choice of wedding jewellry! :rotfl:

It wasn't too bad, quite painful at the time, but they're fine now, and look really good. I can't wait for the 6 weeks to be up so that I can go earring shopping (cheapy ones of course!).

Well best get back to work, think I will have to do some hunting through my house tonight and see what else I can sell! :T x

  • :) Hi

I just sold some odd scraps of gold to Money4 Gold. I can't give an absolute recommendation obviously, but I was EXTREMELY pleased to receive £216.00 from them, as I had been offered less than £100 loacally.
You have the option of not accepting their valuation.
    The way it worked was:
You ask them for a pack.
When you receive it you put all your bits and bobs into it (read the leaflets thoroughly first).
Send it to them (no postage required) and obtain receipt.
They sent me my cheque within 3 days (was a weekend hence the delay).
If you are not happy with their valuation you have a period of time to send the cheque back and retrieve your items.

I was personnaly pleased with mine.

    Hope this helps. :)
