I've got loads of stuff in my wardrobe that I need to chuck out (don't think anyone else would want it!) and I definitely need to be more ruthless. At the moment, I have a 'seasonal death row shelf' where I've put piles of clothes that I haven't worn for ages and have to get rid of if I don't wear them at least once during the season.

All I have to say is 'unworn summer clothes, your days are numbered!!'. :rotfl:

Keep up with the debt-busting Spykey - getting under £7k will feel great!

  • Ha ha, I love that idea of a seasonal death row shelf! I have so many items that I've not worn this summer, and I just keep them because one day I might wear them again!

Maybe this weekend after the wedding I'll have a clear out and be more ruthless - anything that's done the rounds on ebay is off to the charity shops, and anything I've resisted putting on ebay because "I might wear it again one day" is going on there! Ha ha!

Thanks poddle911, I can't wait for sub-£7,000! You're doing so well as well, you've shed like £8500 of debt in a year, that's fab! x

  • Well its been a little while since I've been on, and have very little to report on the debt busting side of things, except to say that my OH's best friend's wedding went so perfectly, although we did spend a small fortune over the two days. I am now so poor that it will be surviving on what we have in the cupboard for the next three weeks! :rotfl:

Nothing much has been happening on the debt busting side of things, I must try better! x

We do this every couple of months for two reasons, firstly to use up any things in the cupboard that have been sat there for months, and secondly just to have a bit of a boost to what we can pay towards the debts. Couldnt do it too often though, would drive me mad :rotfl::rotfl:

  • Ha ha, yes I think my OH will get a bit bored of casseroles as I went a bit mad a few months ago and froze a bulk of them and we still have about four left! Casserole week it is! :D x

  • So, after having my proper LBM on 13th July, I now feel like I am having a second LBM as I realise what our joint debt situation really is. I asked my OH for his figures last night, and he wasn't sure off the top of his head, so we logged into all the accounts and telephoned the ones he doesn't have internet banking for, and it turns out that in total (inc mine) we have around £17,500 worth of debt.

I feel a bit stupid as for months I have drifted along on my figures alone when I should have been looking at our debt as a couple. I feel partly responsible as he did take around £1000 of my debt when I was a struggling student, and, if I'm honest, I've had my head in the sand a bit on the household bills, and just assumed that the money was there, and I now suspect some of it was going on the credit cards.

I think this discovery was a bit much for my OH last night and it seemed to get him really down, so I didn't push the point last night. I've had a word with him this morning and asked if we can have a chat tonight about setting ourselves a budget and making a plan to pay all this back. He's happy to do that and I think he wants to face up to this as much as I do.

I'm not sure if this diary is a bit pointless now as my figures have all changed. I'm going to have a little think about it and maybe OH and I will start one together.

I feel a bit of a failure today, and that while I've been moving grains of sand on one side of the beach, I've been ignoring the tidal wave that has been coming to destroy the work I've done.

Sorry this is a bit of a negative post, I was trying to be as positive as I could for OH last night so was hiding my fear. This is just going to take us years to pay back and I don't even know how we got here...

Will try and be more positive by the next time I post! x

Your diary isnt pointless now! Stick with it, it will help to keep you motivated.
Sorry to hear that it wa a shock to you last night adding up all the figures, but you are not a failure at all! Please dont think you are.

Now you are fully aware of the situation you can make a plan and budget, but please dont feel like giving up.

    We're all here for you!

  • Thanks Flower08! Sorry for being so down, I was just putting on a brave face for my OH in the house and telling him it would be ok (because I could see how down it was making him), but inside it did panic me a bit!

On the plus side, the wedding and honeymoon are virtually paid for now, so we can throw nearly all our spare money at the debts. I'm going to have a long chat with him tonight about the luxuries we can cut (like sky sports - which to be fair he's admitted we could probably survive without! :rotfl:) and lovefilm (which we don't need as we have enough DVDs to sink a battleship). And at least we're making all of our payments and aren't behind on anything, I just want to keep it that way.

I will shake off this silliness and be back tomorrow with a plan of action I promise! :p xxx

:eek:How on earth did you get him to agree to that? :rotfl:
OH has complained non stop since we moved back in with his parents because they dont have skysports, but we used to because 'there was no point in having a tv if we didnt have skysports' :rotfl:

  • Ha ha, that does sound like mine! :rotfl:

It was weird actually, he said it one day out of the blue and I nearly fainted! I never thought he would give it up so I never tried! But he said that if there's a big game on we can always go to my parents to watch it, or he can go and sit in the pub and have a coke (ahhh maybe that's the reason - more excuse to go to the pub!) xxx
