Actually...the yield on this ex council stuff must be huge. Even Mrs Thatcher couldn't have imagine this outcome.

Yes but how long can it last?

Doesnt it just show how overpriced the housing market still is?

Actually I'm with Cleaver on this: London does hve grotty areas, often small pockets, in otherwise ''nice areas''. I'm thinking of paticular estates in SW3,. SW7, NW3 etc. However small the areas, however exclusive the post code, you would catch me linving in them. OTOH if they were not between me and the tube/bus stop I'd live -and hundreds of thousands of others do live -under, well under, half a mile from them and feel quite satisfied with where they live. Its the nature of city living, by and large.

    yes

everyone know now prices are falling

Schools..that's the killer. Cleaver and Mrs C don't have any kids yet....'kids-free', you can get by pretty much anywhere 'before kidis'.

What ones everyday life revolves around changes once kids arrive and they get to age 4/5.

The thing is about above, I would have thought that most people look to the future. I certainly did when I bought our family home before we had kids. the thought process was that we wanted to have a settled home.

I do understand that younger people have an attraction to live in city centres while they have an interest in the social / weekend scene, but when couples get together and start to plan their future, they really ought to plan ahead.

Sorry if the above sounds to simplistic, which I understand it is, but it's almost like we as a society no longer plan / save / prepare for the future.

As for your story about your friend, it really does shock me that someone can get housing benefits to live in the nicest areas. To me housing benefits should be there to make sure that people have the basic necessities covered, not so they can be subsidised to live in a better area.

Aaah Moneyweek - what a comic that is !

It is funny though to read the bears' comments here. A lot of them have gone very quiet in the intervening period.

    I wonder why ?????????????????/

    Priceless.

This thread was created 9 months ago, claiming 50% falls by July this year.

Property has risen markedly since then.

And the original poster is now trying to buy a house, according to his posts on hpc.
and its from moneyweek who are respected.

Perhaps he has now figured out why they are not.......

    Nope. Never said that.

In fact, all of my long term predictions have been on the pessimistic side of what has subsequently happened.

But I've also been amongst the first to point out more positive news, and speculate it would have an impact.

    As indeed, it did.....
