nah 10 k is norm for france why
well their industry is not ruined by 5 day wanna be so called sparks
    people respect trades there
customers pay for and get quality
    the work lasts for years
the artisans are sklled not like the new breed of pony sparks here!

i work in france and the uk and the difference is refreshing, if you want a good rewire for a 3 bed semi in uk then expect to pay 4 k or the work will be poor! ( areas of course vary)

lol you mean you can rip people off better over there. ;-) I had a quote today from an "electrician" I worked out he was charging £250 a day per worker. He said 2 of them would take 4 days. I told him to f eck off!
  • Just got two quotes for my three bed to be rewired. £1800 and £1700. Going with the £1800 as he can do it in 5 days

£250 a day sounds pretty good 2 me for qualified sparks.....
  • Just haggled down another guy £1500 will all parts. Qualified electrician!
  • Hi There,
The quote you have received is really good for a 3-bed job by a qualified electrician. Do you mind if I ask which area you live in and the details of the guy? We're in Surrey and need our 3-bed semi to be rewired.

    Thanks
  • Had my re-wire on 2 bed.

3 double sockets in every room, ceiling fans in downstairs rooms, extractor fans in toilets, light and 2 double sockets in attic, outside flood light, outside porch light, cloak room light, consumer unit re-fitted and certification provided for £1600 in west midlands.

it was a very good job. if anyone wants his number let me know.

I'm about to cry here. sorry for hijacking or piggybacking on your thread. We are trying to get a 110m2, 3 bed house done up in France (urban France so always more) but the electrician has quoted 11 600 euros for a total rewire, new mains box, new radiators (electric), removing the gas line and boiler so it's all electric, and then putting in the usual no of plugs and points for lights, kitchen appliances etc. Plus rewiring the garage with a single light and plug point. The current wiring has been condemned in the diagnostic report as dangerous. It is from the 1960s and much of it is exterior to the upholstery the owner has stuck and stapled on his walls (which is another expensive redo story......).
We think it is exorbitant, but it's part of an overall gut and do up job (which we thought would make the electrician's job easier as he can make as much mess as he likes?). We were working on about £4-5000 based on London prices.
Do you think we should insist that it's a rip off?
Are electric radiators THAT expensive too or do cheaper ones work just as well as the thermostatically controlled ones?
I'd advise you to take a qualified electrician from here to france and do it that way. You are getting ripped off.

Whereabouts in the WMids are you? I'm about to move from Wolves to Shrewsbury... buying an old house that definitely needs a full rewire... I think the previous owner (rip) fancied himself as a spark. A little knowledge appears to be a dangerous thing! I especially love the way he's wired the shed with overhead cabling from the house.... it's a death trap!

  • im in desperate need of a full rewire i recently had my house marked down as a code 2 potentially dangerous as the house isnt earthed so off i went to get some quotes and i cannot believe how difficult it is to even get an electrican these days i live in n.e lincs england, after several calls i had one who was going to ring back still waiting, and 2 visits one from a local sparky and one from a major electric company well i was astounded at the quote i got from the major company £8000 i just dont believe this is true i live in a four bed house end terrace nothing special at all,the local sparky on the other hand said the house is earthed and a full rewire is not nessecary but just to put in a new rcd unit and earth the gas and water price to be decided so what are your thoughts on this :rotfl:

have a look at mybuilder and the like as then they will e-mail rough quotes to you. I've had different ones from 1500 to 2000, but think i'm going to have a periodic inspection first as i don't know if it all really needs doing tbh
