Slight odd moment. Called the Co-op today for a cashminder account. Was 100% honest with the chap on the line, told him I wasn't yet bankrupt but would be very shortly. Advised me they would only open the account AFTER the Bankruptcy went through!

Amiga, I was advised by cccs recently to open a cashminder account the day AFTER my BR (not BR yet) so perhaps this is the Co-op's preferred process. Sure others have opened acccounts before BR though

it i s usually advised to open it after your BR order was made aas the OR will have no access to it althougfh many peopel have opne a bank account before hand as with Baclays it takes time for the application to go through.

if i am not mistaken you could open a post account just to receive your benefit until you get sorted so you will not risk that your current bank start to offset their loss.. it happen to me and my other half and it is not nice !

Been following this thread, as my debt problems were due to gambling.

Just wanted to add my support.

I once had a phone call from my bank regarding the gambling activity on my account. Now bear in mind this was my current account where my wages were being paid into, wasnt overdrawn or anything, and at the time I remember thinking "How dare they??". I know see that they probably had a vision of what the future would hold!!

Anyhow, just wanted you to know that you arent on your own........it does get better, the urges DO go, and life can become fun once more!!

None of their goddamn business what you spend your money on. You earned it, you spend it how you want. Perhaps you could of said you object to the banks being bailed out by YOUR money!

    Hello all,

I have been lurking on these forums for a while - I got some great advice here a few months back but stuck my head in the sand and carried on. Now I am going to face up to things and sort them out. I wanted to create a diary as such of my progression through BR as someone whose reason is Gambling. Please note that I am fully aware this is my fault and I feel so low that nothing anyone can tell me can make me feel worse. I am also aware that most people here are going BR through no fault of their own and I really do feel for them

So please if you just want to come on the thread to yell at me please don't. This is just here for those people that find themselves in the same boat as myself

Today I contacted CCSC and arranged a telephone interview for myself. I feel so ashamed it has come to this but I guess this is the only way to sort things out for the future. I also attended my first face to face meeting with a Gamcare counsellor today - felt really good to get it off my chest and talk about things. Have also put anti gambling software on my computer so if temptation does rear it's head I CAN'T gamble.

I will update this as I go through the process and I do hope it helps some other people.

    Hey Amiga,

I don't think anyone here judges anybody. After all, aren't we all more or less on the same boat? My debts aren't due to bankruptcy but I feel just as ashamed of myself as you do. It's true when you say that no one can blame you more than you blame yourself. So I wish you the very best of luck and I hope everything goes smoothly for you. And I hope you get what every BR person hopes for: AN EARLY DISCHARGE! ;)

Just to let you know, my husband is with Barclays and has had no end of issues with them, he advised the day after we went bankrupt adn they made him go in and open a different account, then they wrote to him and closed all his savings, albeit they were empty, and then, contrary to all their literature they removed his telephone banking and internet access.

He has had rings around with them getting misinformation with regard to the internet banking, this is a complete nightmare for us, and he has to go into the branch to get a statement, he says he feels like he works there, as he is in there so often!

I am with Yorkshire, I opened the account approx 6 months before we went bankrupt.

They have been brilliant, never even froze my account, still got the same account, maestro card and internet banking, although be aware if you decide to go to the Yorkshire you need to open the account before your bankruptcy.

    .

like two expereince s are never the same lol  have you though of complaining to them ?

barclays told us tht we will not be able to access telephoen and internet banking due to the fact we could ask to get an overdraft automatically , i cant remember the exact wording they use ....

i have an account with them so my other half and we are happy with them, although it took longer for them to open our bank account !

i could not say the same however about the co-op who told us that your application was successfull over the phoen to be told no in writing and their 3 strike out policy is not even advertise ...... and undicharged Br will not be able to open a bank account with them if they have a debt with them as i found out at my expenses last year .
