I imagine it is to protect future creditors and myself from getting in this mess again?

I don't think it is meant as a punishment as such ( of course I could be totally wrong!)
  • but if help was provided you wouldnt gamble. Surely leaving someone with a deep ingrained addiction without help could lead to theft etc , worsening the situation (i am not saying in anyway you would do this , just a general point of view :) )

Well I have started the ball rolling!

Called the Court today, 4 week waiting list, the lady is sending out the forms to me so I have a little time to make sure I complete them properly!

I did meet my first hurdle today though, after speaking to the awesome CCCS lady yesterday she advised me to go cancel the DD's on my current Credit Cards and Loan. I did this today in my local branch. As I was doing this I was told there was a flag on my account and I needed to see the Manager! So I went into the office ( heart pounding! Does he KNOW I am going BR!!) who proceded to tear a strip off me for Gambling on my account, he basically spoke down to me for 10 minutes and then told me they are "reviewing" my account as I "only" have benefits going into it now.

I was very shocked, however the naughty side of me was thinking when the OR sends me to the Saltmine in Sibiera for the gambling I will have a little smile at this manager when he doesn't get his money back as I am BR. He has only strengthed my resolve to go ahead after his little outburst

Yes it is my fault, but why allow the card to be used at gambling sites then?

Well after that convosation I would be right on the phone and open a Co-op Cashminder or Barclays Cash account and get your benefits etc. paid into them ASAP, so they can't start using right of offset.

    Good Idea Tigerfeet

quick question regarding that though. If I open one today and start getting my benefits paid into it when I go BankRupt in 4 weeks if I have any left over funds in the Co-Op account will the OR take them too?

It won't be a massive amount as I am on JSA/Housing Benefit but I do use that money for food/rent

Just make sure you take the money out before you go BR as living expenses :)

    Thank you very much

I was scared if I did that the OR would be angry. However I do have to live!

Slight odd moment. Called the Co-op today for a cashminder account. Was 100% honest with the chap on the line, told him I wasn't yet bankrupt but would be very shortly. Advised me they would only open the account AFTER the Bankruptcy went through!
