Good luck with sorting things out Amiga (I had an Amiga computer many years ago, it was great!).
I called CCCS BR helpline myself today as I have debts of around the same amount as you. Though the majority of this was not related to gambling I used to play online poker a lot some years ago and often used CC's to fund the accounts. Whether they check back in time that far I will have to wait and see .
Like yourself I had great advice here too a few months back. I followed much of the budgeting advice at the time and it made a big difference (thanks guys n girls ) but when BR was suggested I couldn't really face the thought of it. Things haven't changed financially and now I know its my best (only real) option.
I will keep checking your thread to see how it's going for you and will no doubt start a thread of my own with a few questions.
Focus on the end result of being debt free and this should help you get through it.
I wish you the very best of luck,

Dack. The OR only usually asks for the last 12-24 months statements, some do not get asked for any at all. They can if they want go back as far as 6 years or ore but this is only when they suspect foul play and then it is rare.DxFree impartial debt advice available from: National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111 | Find your local Citizens Advice Bureau

Hi Amiga,
Firstly you will not go to prison. End of story. Complete urban myth! When the OR looks at your SOA he/she will take in to account what % of your gambling had contributed to your BR. 90% will probably occur a BRO/BRU, but if you take a look at the restrictions these place on you, I certainly wouldnt lose any sleep. Unless of course you wish to be an MP, or a Director etc etc. When you have your interview the OR will ask if you are seeking help from one of the Gambling help organisations, hopefully you will say yes, this helps in determining your BRO/BRU length.
There are many people in the world who do not acknowledge their problems and carry on regardless. You have done the hardest bit by acknowledging your problem.............it will get easier, and remember this in life." Everything passes "
It will for you soon, but in the meantime welcome aboard.0 -
Thanks again
I do beleive it is the fear of the unknown that is the worst. I am currently imaging that all the OR are just poised there waiting to haul me over the coals However I am now thinking this whole doing nothing and letting my brain runaway with worry is even worse!
Dack, it is nice to have someone in a similar situation to myself ( not nice for either of us but good to know we aren't alone! )
One more query I forgot to ask the lady from CCCS I moved house in May to another court area, would I be right in thinking I need to attend court in my area? It isn't a huge pain as it is only 20 miles away
And Amigo/Amiga is fine Dalip :rotfl:0 -

Normally it should be the court in the area where you have resided (or carried on business) for the greater part of the last six months.
There is some flexibility in the system though, if there should be inconvenience. Check with the courts involved.

Hi mate,
Well done for facing up to your problems, the one tip I will give thus far is to phone the court and make sure they cover your area because I turned up at my county court only to find out that I need to be at the neighbouring county court because I live so close to the border......so I'd geared myself up for nothing!0 -
In terms of gambling I've always found that the best policy is to walk away at the halfway point. If you have, say, £250 you're happy to spend, go to a casion with £500. Stop when you hit £250, even if you're sure of winning whatever it is, and you haven't lost. That way, gambling is still a game, without ever becoming a bad habit. You can gamble and still be sensible!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Good idea Fandango - going to give them a ring tomorrow and will get the lowdown then!
And nice suggestion Moneymouth but I am giving it up forever. I don't have the willpower to just stop - if that was me I would spend the other 250 trying to win back what I had lost! Hence why trying to win back 100 quid has cost me 48,000 a fiancee and years of worry!0 -
why do they give BRU's , surely professional help would be more appropriate than punishment0
