Yes Lilibet, it was an anxiety attack. This debt and gambling issues have made me feel really low in the past and all this uncertainty have made things bad again.

Thanks Confused, that is what I will do. I have no problem paying back some of what I went BR with. I would really like to rent my own studio or one bedroomed flat as I feel this would help me settle down so the tax credits may help a little towards doing that :)
  • Did you have your 2nd face to face interview, as mentioned a few pages ago. What was it all about? I've got a F2F interview coming up, and was hoping that would be it - but if people get called back for further F2F interviews, I can't handle the stress!

I did yes. Mine was due to my gambling. The lady was fine, she just asked a lot of questions but didn't judge or yell at me at all. You will be fine.

  • But what kind of questions do they ask at the 2nd interview that they hadn't covered in the 1st interview - or couldn't already work out from the bank statements and gambling statements that they had?

I'm sure with gambling, the OR will have all of the transaction details for betting sites plus your bank statements. Do they bring you in to justify individual bets you may have made?

Good work I'm glad you are sorting it out and it's good to deter other gamblers. I had a small problem with it before, never got into debt though. I was just losing my wages every week on the bookies roulette. Started off as a social thing with my pals putting football bets on etc, ended up me being in there alone most weekends. What I found made it hard to quit was I actually won quite a bit, I once walked in with pocket change, 5/10 quid and walked out with 500+. Obviously it slowly went back in over time.

My Father told me 2 things about gambling, 1 of which took me years to understand. The first was the only person who ever wins in the person who doesn't gamble. And the one that took me along time to understand was that we Gamble to lose. I used to think AY!? I gamble to WIN and I feel crap when I lose! but that feeling of losing is what we really lust for, whether we know it or not. The second I understood that I stopped and have not gambled since.
  • I was really asking for a friend who went BR earlier this year. His was mainly down to gambling, he had a phone interview with the OR and supplied all bank statements and gambling account details. They've recently asked him to attend a F2F interview. He's worried sick about it, and doesn't really know what new information they expect to get when it's all there in facts and figures. He's already put his hands up to the gambling and disclosed every in the phone interview and handed over all documents and account details. Are they getting him in just to belittle him.

He can't really understand what more he can add. Are they just going to go; "This transaction from your bank account to Online Bookie X for £500, why did you gamble that?". They have the bookie records, so can see that all of the funds were lost over the past year and not kept as winnings in the account!

Hi NM, There is a good reason, telephone interviews are not recorded and the only record is the examiner's notes. If they are going to go ahead with a BRO, they have to do things a bit more officially, In the Interview as you say it may go mainly over all the information they already have, The Office interview is conducted under the perjury act and the bankrupt signs at the end to say that it is a true reflection of what has been said in the interview. If he has been up front then there is nothing to worry about and to just regard it as a formality that has to be done.
Hi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

  • Will this mean that he'll definitely get a BRO/BRU? Otherwise they'd just use the information from the phone interviews / bank & gambling records?
