We tried to sign up in my name but because we'd already done the tesco one (run by screenselect) they sent us an e-mail saying we couldn't do the trial. So cancelled it.

Then i got an e-mail this morning with a £20 voucher from dvd.co.uk. Didn't get a free trial but got my CD and DVD that i wanted. Thanks OP.

Omg.. really! I might give it a try then!! :T

So I am well mad and I am going to cancell asap :o(

I have had the same response  , despite having signed up following a link for £20 from the dvd.co.uk website which auto entered the code. Have never been on screenselect before so not a cookie issue. I am cancelling too. I probably would have continued otherwise, so more fool them.

Thanks very much to OP. I received my voucher the other day and ordered books for £18.75 which I'll be getting free. When I've watched the 2nd DVD - I'll cancel my membership. I have to say the DVD they have sent are oldish ones and were low down my request list - but for free I'm not bothered. Thanks again

My e-mail of complaint garned the following response:

    "Dear Paul,

Thank you for your e-mail as was received on 22nd April 2006.

Please note that the promotion code on your account is DVD52. This code does not entitle one to a £20.00 voucher but only to a £5.00 voucher. Please allow up to 28 days for this to be processed.

Should there be further assistance that I am able to provide, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Kind Regards

    Raj"

    My response is as follows:

    "Dear Raj,

I'm not aware of having been given any "promotion code".

I applied to join ScreenSelect in good faith under the promise of a free trial and a £20 voucher to spend at https://www.dvd.co.uk. If you renege on this deal I will take this matter further. You cannot promise one thing and change it to something else.

You shouldn't promise something that you cannot provide. If the £20 voucher is not forthcoming, as promised, I will cancel my subscription and contact the local Trading Standards office."

Does anyone know what the legal position on this is?

miseryguts - I believe that the link on dvd.co.uk to screenselect did show which code should be used (I think DVDAPR?), and that on a new registration the code was automatically entered. I checked that the two corresponded before I submitted my application.
