Guess what?? I did my shopping today and when I checked my bank account, the amount had not been deducted from my bank, although it usually does it instantly, apparently they were having a bit of trouble with their machines. Dare I hope?

Took coins to the bank - $54.50 - not too bad.

Good luck with the number crunching Hypno - may you come out on top!

  • Morning! Scratchcards aren't working for me this morning, so I thought I'd pop on here.

Llamahead - I had a similar thing happen to me a couple of years ago. Thought I'd got a away with it, but three weeks later the money came out of my account.

Have a good day everyone - work beckons. :D

Morning - payday tomorrow - then I can get everything sorted!

Not done much this week - have a pile of ironing for today and have to walk to library as run out of books and DD is working so has my car.

Pork Pie was lovely for tea yesterday - must have llok through stock cupboard to see what I can rustle up for today!

Hope your mouth ulcers start to clear up - they can be so painful but hopefully two weeks holiday will do the trick.

    Have a good one everyone

Not a great month moneywise ahead of us - my pay wasn't that good, but then the summer months are always quieter, so I can't expect any different.

If we are uber-careful, we should be ok - but we do have a holiday coming up that could lead to very tempting spends, and it is during that week that I have to be the most careful. We do have some spending money put to one side, so we have a definite budget we should stick to, but (as always with the life of a DFW family) it is not exactly a generous budget, and I need to get the balance right between eating out/doing activities/having a fab time and self catering/spending less.....

I still have £195 to come for the current student, but worryingly, OH has not got a single shift in his second job for August! He has been working there for 5 years now, and I can't remember any month that he has not had anything  It seems that no one is taking holiday that he can cover......we just have to hope (in the nicest possible way) that people get swine flu and he gets to cover sickness instead.

We are some way from being able to manage on just our basic salaries, without the extra jobs/reliance on bonuses etc....the aim is that we can eventually get everything to balance on the basics, so that if we have a lean month moneywise, we can still relax knowing that the bills and food are covered.

All still very much "work in progress"

Morning hypno, hope DH manages to pick some shifts up soon - must be a bit nail biting when it gets like that.

Egg have always been troublesome for me, I applied online for a card, it crunched up my details and has locked me out of their system for good...even the IT geeks there couldn't understand it.

DH had a loan and a card with them years back, he applied last week for a 0% card with them, instantly approved, message saying everything will be sent in the post for approval. He phoned them to check credit limit....No sir, no account has been approved for you.....Errrmmm yes it has I've got the screen in front of me......No sir, but we could hide your account details for a few days, if you'd like to apply again........Why do you need to hide my account details......Well strictly speaking we can't offer you a 0% card as you're a previous customer, however if no one could see you were a previous customer.......

He put the phone down. How is that anyway to run a business!!

    You'd be well shot.

Hi Pooky! That is a really bizarre way for them to deal with your OH application - there seems to be a huge amount of training required in that place, I reckon.

The annoying thing is, that is SHOULD be all good - for example, egg are one of the few that allow balance transfers to current accounts, so you can clear a loan to 0%, and they are one of the few that allow overpayments to loans or early repayment without penalty etc. If only they could get their customer service right, both "real person" and automated (although sometimes I am sure the two are morphed into one!) then it would be an excellent provider.

Sadly, though, they haven't - the first three years were fine - the last 4 years have been just one issue after another, so I am not going to give them the opportunity to knock me back again.

I made my payment by debit card today, and when that clears, the account will go.....I am not even going to keep it for emergencies, because I have vowed to save for those, and I am bigger than Egg, so don't need to rely on them "just in case" :T

Ooh hiphouse - I really hope I get away with it - it would be sooo cool. It has happened once before, we stayed at a hotel and they didn't charge us for anything we had on room service or from the bar. :T They never took the money!:T

Keep your fingers crossed for me.
