Which you could have done months ago. The egg card was just keeping you dependent on debt.

It is like an abusive relationship with a violent partner - you know what you SHOULD do, but something keeps you from cutting the ties and walking away to be your own person.

Extreme comparison I know, and I cannot pretend to know what it is really like being with a partner like that, but that is how it makes me feel - completely run in to the ground time after time, yet still I give them my loyalty.

Well no more. I have two tins of corned beef, some tomato soup and a packet of couscous......I can survive :rotfl:

I thought the advice was always to keep a card and pay it off in full every month because this looked good on credit score etc:confused:? I have been doing this with my barclaycard - using it for petrol just cos I like the idea that I paid them interest for years and now they send bill and I pay it and they get nothing from the deal:D!

Can't believe all those calls though - surely there's a case for harassment there?

You have a mortgage. You pay it off on time. How much of a credit record do you need?

And who is likely to say this? The credit card companies who make over a quid on every one of your transactions?

They do - but from the retailer - not you. You do of course pay higher prices for the privilege, but that cost is usually concealed from you.

I think that was the reason behind my thinking, but even that has proved to be a stress I can really do without - obviously!

Even with paying off the card every month, and having a so called excellent credit score now, I still can't get a decent deal on a loan (or even a deal at all).

So it makes me wonder whether I would be better just to forget any other form of credit other than my mortgage when I move house, and just work on what we have left, and accept things as they are for the time being, keep chipping away at the remaining debt, and save up as much as I can for a deposit to get me the best mortgage offer at the time.....

.....and not worry about anything else other than making sure my income is at least equal to, and preferably slightly more than, my basic outgoings.
