I am getting wound up watching Economy Gastronomy on BBC2 - this family have been challenged to live on a vastly reduced budget - from £330 a WEEK, yes, a WEEK for a family of 5, to a recession busting £210 A WEEK........

That is my monthly budget for 5 (more or less).

So of course, all these wonderful "cheap" ideas for meals they are coming up with, are still far far far more expensive than I can justify or afford to spend.

And they are supposed to be talking about eating on a strict budget to see us through recession - HEAD OVER TO OLD STYLE MR TV PRODUCER!!!!!

Ummmmm how and why and eh!? That sounds like quite the malfunction... Wardrobe or machine! :rotfl:

Imagine short person, soap dispenser high on wall containing bag of soap. Think I got an air pocket so whacked it to make it work large squirt of soap all over me. Managed to wash off face and top but had suspicious sticky area in my hair all day in a Something about Mary style!

Loving the house Gallygirl that pool is marvellous :D

ETA could we club togther and have as a MSE timeshare ?!

Well they work on the basis that you start with a "core" dish, that you can adapt - rather like we advise on here - grab a roast chicken for £3....roast on Sunday, stir fry chicken on Monday, chicken risotto on Tuesday and chicken and veg soup on Wednesday......

Except they started off with "£20 worth of beef, but it will do 15 portions" (ie 3 meals).

OK, so "old style" says, grab a chicken, spend £3 and feed your family for 4 days.......and BBC2 says "pay £20 for some beef and feed your family for 3 days".......

Gallygirl - I love love love that pool. I have a euro in my purse left over from skiing, that I sometimes use in my shopping trolley - I am happy to donate it to the cause.......

Now they are given the "ultimate challenge" -they have to conjour up a last minute dinner party for people, using just what they have in the cupboards and fridges, left over from the week......

    .....PLUS £2.50 PER PERSON!!!!!!!

Now, you show me someone on these boards that couldn't do that from EITHER the fridge/freezer/cupboards OR £2.50 per person.......

Might pop onto the OS boards and see if people are ranting and complaining about this... :rotfl:

I am also outraged as my weekly budget for four when I was at uni was £25 and we still ate damn well thanks to canned veg!
