To Clean Or Not To Clean?

you should clean it I left my old house spotless I literally mopped my way out of the back door, and I was proud of my little home.
However the house I moved into was disgusting - emulsioned the inside of the fridge white!!!! My dad bought me a cooker because it was too bad to use, the white bathroom suite had turned grey, and they had changed all curtains and light fittings.just a few examples I now tell everyone neighbours etc how dirty it was because I know the people we bought off are still in the nearby area. I want them to find out I have told the world because it was so bad.
You don't want people calling you for leaving a mucky house, so give it a clean even if it is just a once over.0 -
My last place was a nightmare when I moved in...fleas in the carpet from the previous owner's dog...and my cats immediately got fleas and so did I!, toilet stank of pee, a light covering of moss on the bathroom wall (it was untiled and the single bloke had been showering against the bare plaster), hole in the wall where he'd removed the shower unit (yes really!), dog pee stains on every floor, he took the oven, he took the built in dishwasher, he took the built in fridge/freezer, he took the built in washing machine...hey I didn't want them they were all bound to be minging!, the ceilings were brown from cigarette smoke, and I found a pair of his underpants behind the radiator in the bedroom. So it wasn't terribly pleasant at all. He told me he would clean it, and give him his dues he had obviously wiped the kitchen tops down ha ha ha! The garden...oooo the garden...front garden had a hedge which came up to the top of the upstairs windows, there was so much rubble piled up in the back garden it took me about 30 trips to the dump to get it cleared - it was minging minging minging!!!! I knew it was going to be horrible when I moved in, I wasn't disappointed. Had to get my butt in gear and get it sorted. On moving in I got the movers to put everything into 1 bedroom while I set about ripping the wallpaper off...
Do I win the prize for the mingiest moving in experience?
When I left it, like others on this thread, I vacuumed and polished myself out the front door. I've got standards you know! The people buying were wanting to let it out rather than live in it. I cleaned it for them anyway, they were nice people!0 -

Imagine how much you would have had to pay for it if it had been up to standard !0 -
i think you should leave it clean,I know how horrid it is to move into a dirty place,When i moved from my last place knowing that someone was moving in straight after i left it spotless also left an old kettle out and tea making stuff, light bulbs etc to make the move feel easier and a packet of biscuits.Lucky No27

Ah yes, this point was not lost on me at all - it was seriously undervalued because of the grime. Having the ability to look past the grime is a good skill to have.

I'm packing up some cupboards today and, yes, I will be cleaning as I go! :A
If the daffodils are still in bloom by the time we move, I'll be cutting some to leave in the house for my buyer.
Wish we were in the new place in time for this nice long weekend but it wasn't to be - not even exchanged yet!
hope you all have productive weekends.0 -
When we moved out of our last home, I walked out of  the front door with the hoover following behind me! You can imagine my disgust when we got to our new house (with cream carpets in the dining room, the stairs and the upstairs-only 4 months old apparently) that the people who had moved out had traipsed dirt from the garden through the dining room, up the stairs and into each of the bedrooms!! 'The beds would only go through the doors in the dining room' was all they said. Dirty rotten scoundrels I say!!
Always clean. kindness costs nothing.
We also left a 'Welcome to your new home' card and a (cheap) bottle of plonk for our new owners, in our new home we had been left nothing but dirt and our first mortgage payment bill!!!!0 -

The joy ofthis time of year is that there will be another long weekend in 2 weeks time and then one more three weeks after that. Hopefully you (and I - exchanging Thursday all being well) will catch one of those.0 -

.
And having someone to clean it up for you when you've bought it is even better! :beer:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

My husband and I own an oven cleaning firm and I have been pleasantly surprised at how many considerate people have their ovens cleaned for the new owner!! In fact we do a home-mover's package whereby they get 50% off the cleaning of their oven in their new house to recognise the fact that they've just shelled out on something they won't get the benefit of. However the oven looks like new for the new owner!!!
There are a lot of really kind and thoughtful people out there, and it's good for our business too!! :j0
