www.freenameastar.com will let you name a star after him. Maybe pay the extra so it doesn't have "free" all over it, then print the certificate on nice paper and tie it in a scroll with a ribbon and stick it in a nice box - or else frame it. Done, cheap, easy and totally appropriate to the occasion.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

I bet this would give the kids hours of fun... and could be made into a simple gift by adding all the bits needed with instruction in a box of soap powder, you could even make a cover for the box with build your own snowman lable
If there's one craft kids can't resist, it's sculpting. Children are born to squish, roll and stick stuff together.
MATERIALS
2 cups mild, powdered laundry detergent (we tested and recommend Ivory Snow Ultra)
1/2 cup water
Toothpicks
Twigs, cloves, buttons, felt, seed beads, tempera paints, egg carton and pipe cleaner
To mix up a batch of faux snow, pour the Ivory Snow into a bowl, add the water and whip with an electric beater until doughy.
Shape the damp soap into three balls. Stack them by gently pushing a toothpick halfway into the center of the bottom ball. Then, push the middle ball down onto the toothpick until the two balls touch. Do the same for the snowman's head. Now, add twig arms, clove eyes, shirt buttons and a felt scarf. To make a smiling mouth, press on a row of seed beads. For a mini carrot nose, color the tip of a short twig with orange paint. Top off the snowman with an egg-cup hat or a set of pipe-cleaner earmuffs. As the soap dries (this can take a few hours), it will lose its grayish tinge and turn bright white.

I think this idea is lovely and would really set the mood and scene at any winter party....
This crystal lantern may be as cold as ice, but it's guaranteed to cast a warm, welcoming light on a winter night. To make one, you'll need water, a large metal mixing bowl, a plastic yogurt container, a cupful of small stones or coins and, of course, freezing temperatures.
Start by having your child pour a couple of inches of water into the mixing bowl. Place it outdoors to freeze.
Fill the yogurt container with the stones or pennies, then center it on the ice in the bowl. Slowly pour more water into the bowl so that it nearly reaches the rim of the smaller container, and let it freeze solid. To remove the lantern from its mold, run warm water on the outside of the bowl and the ice should slip out. Next, dump out the contents of the inner container and pour in warm water to loosen it. Remove the container and place a votive candle in the opening.

The Kids are going back to school so its time to start thinking what to give them for lunch. Some will have the School dinners but others will want a nice pack lunch... so heres a few fun tips for the pack lunchers....
10 Fun Ideas for Lunches- Let your kid select a lunchbox that best expresses his or her personality.
- Pack lunch together the night before. This way your child really has a role in preparing a healthful meal.
- Put away the sandwich bread and shake things up with a low-fat, whole-wheat tortilla or pita pocket.
- Feeling really daring? Go out on a limb with rolls, flat bread, bagels, foccacia, scones, or rice cakes.
- Switch up the condiments. "Instead of light mayonnaise, mustard or ketchup, add a healthy kick to any sandwich by using fresh salsa, pesto, or vinaigrette," says Dr. Jennifer Trachtenberg, MD, a New York pediatrician.
- Make fruit fun. Skewer fresh fruit on Popsicle sticks. Let your kids help make the kebabs.
- Send along your child's favorite condiment or dip for fruit, crackers, or veggies: low-fat dressing, applesauce, peanut butter, etc.
- Take advantage of manufacturers' prepackaged healthful products that now come in cooler shapes and wrappers, including trail mixes (with dried fruit, nuts, and cereal), smoothies, and yogurts.
- Don't forget the drink. Some low-fat milks, 100 percent fruit juices, and even bottled waters come in funky shapes.
- Include a note on a napkin or a funny comic strip from the morning paper. "A simple 'Good luck on your test' or 'Thinking of you' goes a long way," Dr. Trachtenberg says.
