  • We've had not one but three recent experiences of Amazon's customer service, the latest being the delivery, first thing Tuesday morning this week, of a £5.99 paperback (£9.99 in the High Street) ordered late on Sunday evening.

I've checked to make sure we aren't Amazon Prime subscribers -- no: we're not -- and come to the conclusion that if it continues on like this, Amazon will have delivered the product to us before we've even ordered it.

We're going to ask Amazon to stop providing this free-of-charge amazingly instant next working day delivery service because if this kind of thing is emulated by other ecommerce companies, we as consumers will never have anything to moan about again ever again.
  • Well it got me too... :o I ordered 1 product, saw Free delivery, clicked it, recieved it... forgot about it.

Now of course I'm sitting here waiting for my refund of £48.00 for a membership to something which I do not want.

I know (and have read now) the small print is there, and I know that I could have clicked a button and none of this would have happened. But the fact that it has, and to many many other people too, indicates to me that the message regarding the cost and cancellation of Prime is simply not clear enough for casual or occasional users of Amazon. Regular users are of course very happy with this charge, happy with the service and can not understand what all the fuss is about...

In my opinion Amazon should contact the new Prime members 7 days before the expiry of their free trial by email reminding them that unless they cancel before that date, the charge will be made. I am happy however that they are offering a full refund for those of us who foolishly thought Free meant free. :T

As it is they have left a bitter taste in some customers mouths over this, including mine. I am comforted though that I will never be caught out again by Amazon, as I have no intention of using them in the future.

we have been over this many times
its very clear to most how prime works and a casual buyer should surely be more aware of what they are clicking? as opposed to those that use amazon a lot and just click through the usual pages

heres the amazon page you clicked

Why should Amazon contact you before your free trial runs out? They tell you the days you have free, its therefore your responsibilty to cancel, not theres - and why should they refund you for somthing you chose to opt into? Its a bit like just clicking a T+C link without reading it and then complaing about something which you agreed to?

I use Amazon all the time, i may normally use the supersaver delivery as it only takes two days to reach me!

Anybody who signed up to this without reading all the small print, and then complains is in the wrong, thats my personal opinion - apologies if this offends anybody

    A very sensible statement, custardy.

Anyone who buys or signs up to something should really be aware of what they are commiting to BEFORE clicking on the 'pay' button.

I think all these people who HAVE signed up for Amazon Prime without understanding what they are agreeing to are incredibly lucky that Amazon are so reasonable about refunding the fee.
  • To be honest, I think you've got to be a bit of a mong not to notice the conditions - they are, after all, right there in front of you before you click.

Seriously, it's a surprise that some people can actually get onto Amazon to order at all..........

I agree with what you say, but not the way you say it.

You've crossed the line between reasonable exasperation and abuse with just 2 or 3 words!
  • I love this thread and those that came before. It's like a favourite comfy armchair.
  • Having just signed up for Amazon prime yesterday (foolishly) without being aware of the costs, and now having read this useful thread, I visited my Amazon account. I was able to tick the box that PREVENTS my months´ free trial of Amazon prime being upgraded to the full monty with the 48 pounds fee. Thanks guys.

I've just been charge 49 pound for this prime service all because i was impatient and ordered something ticking the next day delivery option (as it said it was free).

Thankfully after calling the service desk and explain the situation then willingly refunded the money back into my account :-)

    happy days
