Hi - I have also had this nasty unexpected charge from Amazon.co.uk.
Thanks to your email and a Google search I found out what the fee was for.

Go onto the Amazon site and work your way through to "cancel Prime membership" and you should get the same reply back as I have just received - hopefully the money will follow.

    Good luck "Drains"

Your Amazon Prime membership has been cancelled, per your request.

Since you have not used your membership benefits, we are refunding your membership fee. (Please note, if your most recent membership charge is being processed, we cannot issue a refund until the charge is complete.) If your membership charge has been completed, your refund should be processed within the next 2-3 business days and will appear as a credit on your next credit card billing statement.

You are welcome to reactivate your Prime membership at any time by signing up again. Please know that we value your business, and we hope to see you again soon at Amazon.co.uk.
  • I too have got sucked into this, though I must say Amazon have been nothing but helpful and have agreed to refund my money. I am more annoyed with my bank right now who picked up on this transaction, stopped my card, I had to wait for a replacement and was informed that they would not allow this transaction to go through but just in case it appeared on my statement I should contact them. I have since been shoved from one telephone number to another waited at least ten minutes per call for them to pick up only to have someone trying to sell me insurance and then to be told that thet couldn't help and to contact Amazon. I'm just hoping that Amazon can reimburse a card that has been stopped as my bank can't guarantee this and it will mean more long calls to the bank. Thank you Amazon for being the only ones to actually help me today and finding a quick resolution!

Yes it has happened to me too. I do not know how this happened at all and because I wasn't aware of it coming out of my bank account they overdrew me and then I accumulated 7 £35 bank charges for my direct debits over the following few days!! Thanks Amazon. They have said that they will reimburse the £47 which is kind seeing as it cost me about £300 for something I niether wanted or knew that I had signed up for. I have no clue how to pay my charges now because I am on income support due to a disabilty. The book I ordered was on about £2 as well. Never again.
AND before everyone complains that I signed up for it because I didn't read the terms and conditions, I paid for my postage and packing so it is a mistake!!!!

    Hi All

I'm really hoping some of you can give me some help
    and advice.
I'm very new to Amazon and sell jewellery in their marketplace section.
It's mostly been fine but an international customer is saying that they have not received some items that they ordered. For various reasons (which i don't want to bore you with) i do not believe that they have not received them.
The items were sent the day after they were ordered
and shipping confirmation slip sent to the
customer confirming that the goods had gone out.
The goods were sent by Royal mail and i got a certificate of posting.
The customer is saying that they accept i have a certificate of posting but are claiming they had not received them.
I really need some advice in this situation as because
as stated previously for various reasons i don't believe them.
Is anyone an experienced Amazon seller on the marketplace who could advise me who is liable here
or may be in a similar situation.
If i can prove that i have actually sent the goods
which i have and can what can i do.
Any help/sugguestions/advice would be really really appreciated.
Everyone is so helpful here i feel confident that you will
be about to advise me with all this.

    Thank-you so much everyone

    Solitude,
I can't help in your answer, but I can say that as a UK citizen living overseas I often don't receive goods sent to me. I ask all senders to not only get proof of posting but also to pay for tracking. It seems that if someone along the way likes the look of the package they just keep it, and from my end there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.
Customs won't help unless it has a tracking number and the post office say it must be stuck in customs.
I'm now very picky about what I get sent and always try to get tracking. If I don't then I don't often expect to see the package arrive.

I can't really help either but do you have some sort of contract in place that details what happens in the event of goods not being received?
I know some Ebay sellers state that they will get proof of posting but are not responsible for goods not being received. I'm not sure on the legal position about that.

Also, I do think you may be better posting a brand new thread about your specific problem rather than on here which is about being charged for Amazon Prime.

I hope you get this sorted out.
    Regards

If you have been signed-up to Amazon Prime incorrectly then Amazon will refund the cost of membership.

As for the seven £35 charges, I think you'd only be able ask Amazon to refund the ones that you wouldn't have incurred had Amazon not taken the £47. Were these seven separate direct debits, or repeated attempts to take the same one or two?

No, sadly they are seperate direct debits, one being cancer research uk of £2 monthly. Obviously, if I would have wished to be a prime member of Amazon, I would have known the price and made sure that I had money in there to cover everything. It was just a case of being confident that I had enough to cover them as routine but this really messed everything up. Very annoying, but I shall just not use them again for certain.
