E-on extortionate monthly payment

OP, ask for a pre-payment meter to be installed. It will pay off your debt slowly but surely, and your usage WILL go down as you pay as you go. Mine did, hugely. You take more notice of what you're using because you're paying for it there and then. Do you really use alll that gas just for hot water? We just use it for the heating and have an electric shower. Not topped up the gas for weeks because it's been lovely and warm.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

Yes gas is just used for hot water between April and October. Everything else is electric, heatign is gas duct air, which I admit can be rather expensive.0

Think pretty much everything has been covered, but a few extras
Pay what you can now - it shows willing, and may make negotiations easier.
Can you get on a cheaper (e.g. online) tariff to reduce the cost of your ongoing consumption?
Can you borrow an energy monitor to really taregt the high consuming appliances?
Can you get your kids to be involved in cutting back?
And finally I really would reemphasise speaking to Eon. Either they will begin to take the £200 odd or they will try to an fail or you will cancel the DD. The latter 2 may lead to you getting a bill, reminders etc leading to a warrant, and a PP meter being force fitted. - you may be charged a couple of hundred for it getting this far.
If you cannot afford to pay for your future and past consumption by DD, take control and order as PP meter yourself - you'll be steps ahead than if you waited for them to force you through court.0 -
Hi King Sentinel
This does not have to go to court.
As I and other posters have said you need to keep talking to us.
From what you have said it seems like a Prepayment Meter may be your best option. This can be arranged easily and the debt spread over a much longer period.
There is no charge for fitting a Prepayment meter but there will be extra costs if it goes to court.
Give us a call.

You have nothing to apologise for.
Malc, why dont Eon and other energy suppliers invest a little in a new public information campaign titled 'We are not here to hold your hand'? The most important lesson I learned was that it was myself who was/is responsible for monitoring energy usage, not your supplier. Yes, they help, but at the end of the day the user has to take final responsibility.
You really need to educate people of their own responsibility.
This is a really good suggestion jimexbox. We are always here to help and advise but you're right. It is a two way street and if customers are able to contribute more it can only be a good thing.
Our website is one way customers can become more involved particularly if they register their account. It also provides a lot of information and news to help raise awareness.
There are some people, like vulnerable customers, who are not always able to be proactive because of their circumstances and we need to be aware of this. However, the more people become involved with their energy supply the better for all concerned.
I will certainly put this forward and many thanks for the suggestion. :T

King sentinel you need to look at all your outgoings when in debt you have to prioritise, this means any household bills come before unsecured credit if you have these negotiate reduced payments and cut down on anything you can0

As a 2 couple family our gas/elec is 500 quid a year 6000 kwh and 2500 for elec (GCH and Elec evetthing else).
I'd implore you to get savvy with elec/gas
Energy saving bulbs,
Turning power off at plugs after you used them
Turning temperature down.
Putting a jumper on instead of having CH on all the time in early winter... and sparingly putting CH on during winter.. will save a ton.
Think of it like a challenge. Altho the debt you've racked up is a problem but am sure you can spread it later.
Its a shame you in debt because you could prob save 10% on Eons tariff by changing supplier
Try www.energyhelpline.com putting your yearly usage in. you also get cashback for switching. I got 100 quid for swtiching to scottish power and their tarriff was cheapeast!0 -

Hi west is best
E.ON took over Powergen in 2002. However, we continued trading under the Powergen brand until 3 December 2007 when we changed our name to E.ON.
Therefore, all your account details will have continued without interruption.
Give us a call and ask the agent to go through your account from the start. If there is a request to go on to an Economy 7 tariff it will have been noted in these account details.
If we can find the date of your request your account can be re-billed from then at the Economy 7 prices relevant at the time the electricity was used.
Is your property all electric including the heating?
Economy 7 tends to be better for all electric properties. If you are not all electric you may not be better off on Economy 7. Again, we will be able to tell you about this.
Has the debt of £600 been building up for a period of time?
All your statements, including those posted online, will have shown the tariff you are on. They will also have shown if a debt was building.
£1000 for 4 months does seem high. Check your statements and make sure they are based on accurate meter readings.
What time of year does this amount cover? If you are all electric and this was the winter period the usage would most probably have been higher than in previous years.
Hope this helps a little.

People are trying to help, you are being rude in return. Clearly, you need to stop living beyond your means. If you can't afford your gas and electricity bills, then you need to cut down on the amount you are using.
You used the energy, why should other Eon customers pay your bill ?
You wouldn't take a trolley to the checkout at Tesco with £200 worth of food in it when you only have £100 in your pocket - just what makes you think you can do it here ?
neas hit the nail squarely on the head ................
Exactly. People seem to treat utility bills differently for some reason....0
