E-on extortionate monthly payment

Eon have upped my bill from £70 to £140. They say it's because we'd built up a large debit (£500) which was due to an error they made.

However, most of that has been paid off, leaving ~£100 outstanding but they still want to up our bill to £140!

What makes matters worse is that they have been over estimating out Gas readings! We have been providing our own but they choose to ignore these and keep using their higher estimated ones so we have been paying for gas we haven't actually used!

Ring them and tell them. They will then use your readings to recalculate an accurate bill for you. You can then negotiate a lower dd

    Hi barrymung

How long did it take us to put right the mistake we made that caused the debt to build up?

If not already done, I would ask for the debt to be spread over a similar period to that taken to put things right. This may be a way of reducing your monthly payments.

Your gas certainly shouldn't be estimated when you are giving us readings. How long has this been going on for?

As Geoffo says, give us a call with your latest readings and ask for your account to be re-billed to these. Also ask for previous readings to be used.

If this has been going on for sometime, it is important to make sure you are charged at the prices relevant when the gas was used rather than today's higher prices.

From what you say, I would expect this to reduce the debt and should also give you lower monthly payments.

At the same time, ask why your readings weren't used in the first place. Don't want to alarm you barrymung but this could indicate another problem.

I'm really sorry you are having to cope with a debt due to mistakes we have made but hope this helps a little. Again, it is important you speak to us so your account can be reviewed and put right if necessary.
