You have to be the current registerd keeper to tax on line which OP daughter wont be until DVLA have changed their system.jeannieblue wrote: »Incorrect.
If you do not have the reference number on the front, you have the alternative of putting in the registration number of the vehicle instead. Am thinking of a new one:beer:0 -

OK then how does the OP get round the fact the vehicle will show up on the DVLA site as not insured?

Is it not illegal to drive without a current tax disc on display(wether or not its in the post)
You do legally have to display a tax disc. But, in saying that, if you go through a check, they can see that it is taxed. Bit of a risk - but a rotten cop if he 'does' you! More likely to get 'done' in a car park or somewhere by some officious tw1t.

Why would it not be insured?Chippy_Minton wrote: »OK then how does the OP get round the fact the vehicle will show up on the DVLA site as not insured?

Exactly....Chippy_Minton wrote: »OK then how does the OP get round the fact the vehicle will show up on the DVLA site as not insured?
Unless daughter insures it before she gets it.
The dealer can do it using their insurance as the car belongs to them at that time.(easiest way) Am thinking of a new one:beer:0 -

Cause it needs to be shown as having insurance on the MIB site for the DVLA to process the tax. The car won't be insured read the original post.
The OP proposes to drive it on his cover.
Do we have a knitting forum she can post on?

OP's daughter will be taxing and insuring it - which is why I recommended that the OP is named driver on daughters insurance, better to be safe than sorry.
Nice to know that you are enjoying attacking me personally again - shows good manners  not helpful for the OP tho, is it?Genie

Blimey...a can of worms...I'll try and simplify...
1) Car for sale at dealers in N. Ireland (where I live)
2) Will be purchased for daughter (lives in North East of England)
3) Insurance for her will be purchased by me using her address in England
4) Car has to be taken to England at the middle of next week, reason? SWMBO and I were both due to fly over for a week with my daughter, then fly home again...this means instead I can book a single crossing on the ferry and fly home with my wife after delivering the car.
5) Because of how insurance companies work...the ins certificate will probably not be available in that time scale, therefore the car cannot be taxed without it (also remember, the car will be in NI and the certificate posted to her address in England)
6) A car being taken from NI to GB does not require anything other than (and I quote) "If you are moving your vehicle from NI to GB, you only need to fill in the change of address section on your V5C(NI) and send the completed Certificate to a DVLA Local Office as your vehicle is staying in the United Kingdom." Or it may be possible to enter the English address at that stage of the purchase.
7) If the garage taxes it, then she buys it (well her mum and me buy it for her lol) the car will be taxed, the documentation completed to show the new owner and according to the text on my insurance certificate (again quoting exactly)
"5: persons or classes of person entitled to drive
The Policyholder - who may also drive with the permission of the owner any private motor car not owned by the Policy holder or hired to the policyholder under a hire purchase agreement.
This cover does not extend to vans, commercial vehicles, mopeds and motorcycles.
Provided the person driving holds a licence to drive the vehicle or has held and is not disqualified from holding or obtaining such a licence"
8) Once the car is at her address in England, she should be able (when the paperwork catches up) to do a "change of address" if necessary, if its not added at the time of purchase.
Hopefully this might explain whats being attempted and it's not a "dodgy" exercise, the alternative is unfortunately quite expensive, will involve another trip to GB (and as SWMBO will want to go thats an additional passenger on the ferry crossing and 2 flights home....plus accomodation (my daughter hasn't the space to put us up)...
so please chip in with any useful advice, hopefully the Northern Ireland/GB bit shouldn't really cause too much grief...thanks everyone so far...if I haven't clicked your thanks button so far....I will get round to it.I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
