That is just such good news.Just shows what patience and caring can do.That dog will give such love now she has learnt to trust again.i am sure when it gets cold she will choose to come inside!

How did she finally manage to get hold of her,or was it a case of following your friend into the garden, and gaining the trust to put a collar and lead on her?
  • fab news!! - yes your friend is doing the right thing, she needs to come and go without making any fuss of the dog, so the dog does not think it is a big deal when she leaves or gets back...only fuss her when she is calm and quiet, then she realises it is better to be calm and quiet!

Bless her, she sounds very confused - scared to bits, daren't come in the house etc, but loves your friend so much already, and is scared she will leave her... I wonder what her story is? At least she is being loved and cared for now. To be hoest, if someone came forwards to claim her, I would be very wary of letting her go back to them - unless they had a good explanation, as it does not sound to me like this dog has had a happy past.

You could look into an insulated kennel for when the weather gets cooler, situated so that rain and draft does not get in... a covered cage will not be enough, especially when there is driving rain and snow etc... I would also be feeding the dog closer and closer to the house every day, to try and get her past being scared of coming inside.
  • Yes it was just slowly every day with the collar but its worked at last.
I should probably explain the cage being covered a bit better its covered on all sides apart from the door which is facing away from the wind so if anything at the moment it is too warm for her she sleeps most days with her head stuck out of the door (think may also be wary of anyone closing her in.) Will have a look at insulated kennels though so we have an idea of cost in case the weather goes downhill sooner rather than later.

Your friend has been an utmost star. There must be awards for behaviour such as hers.
Thankyou for the constant updates and I for one look forward to reading of Lady's progress.

Yay for medders, Lady and the kind hearted woman who is helping her.

And foreign correspondant, you're pretty awesome too! I'm an expert with my dog (not every dog, just mine :-) but I've still taken note of many of the things you've said. Thank you!

Look forward to new photos medders! Take care. Poochie cuddles!
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)

Wonderful result, bless you and your mates for taking the time and trouble to help this little soul xxxx
  • Hi everyone got a few pics of lady for you, she is def getting more confident and is now letting a few different people pet her rather than just my mate. As time goes on I think its looking more and more certain that my mate will keep her as noone has still come forward to even try and claim her.
