PenPen (and anyone else) re. steps - best thing to do is work out how much you do on a normal day (anyone office based who drives to work will probably come out pretty low... unless the loos are a long way from their desk
). If it's under 10,000 a day, aim to work towards that. Otherwise, aim to gradually increase.
The scheme that work have us doing is the Global Corporate Challenge which might be of interest for some of you next year. It provides all sorts of statistics, but nothing you can't do with a basic spreadsheet - for example, it creates a bar chart of your steps as you enter them each day, highlighting your personal best. It also works out your total steps to date, average steps to date, total distance walked to date, average distance walked to date (and if you're doing this yourself, you can use your stride length rather than it being based on someone with longer or shorter legs...), calories used to date, average calories used per day etc. If you're doing this for yourself you could also do weekly totals and charts to show how you're improving week on week... it's the increase that matters if you want to improve fitness/weight loss. If you have a heart rate monitor, you can use that data too...
... so if you've got spreadsheet skills, you can spend all your time coming up with pretty charts and none exercising!
I've made the white chocolate layer of the cake, and now feel sick... it gets everywhere! I'll do the milk chocolate one when I get back from tonight's meeting as I won't have time before I leave for tomorrow's conference (particularly not if I actually make it to the gym tomorrow morning... )
I've done some laundry, but it keeps raining, so some is in the TD and some on the airer.
I think I probably need to go for a walk now - so I'm not quite sure when I'm going to sort out a handbag and the cake boxes... looks as if I'll have to either try Reading tomorrow after the conference, or panic on Friday!!! Still, at least the house is looking pretty respectable!0 -
