Lady_K wrote:On my daughter letter it said semester 1 - blank, semester 2 - £858.81 total for year £858.81 so I don't know if she missed out applying later or not as it didn't say. It also had a tick in the non standard award box what would that mean?
The university can give a standard award - which is to fill a shortfall between income and allowable expenditure, or they can give a non-standard award which is for cases which fall outside the criteria but where there is a genuine need or emergency. Does that make sense?"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0 -

Yep Crispy Ambulance is spot on with his response. I'm glad you were successful, you'll be pleased to know the Summer fund form is a bit shorter than the standard one!

Is it only "traditional" universities have this or does the OU have ti too?
Thanks
I am not sure about the OU but I did a part-time Medieval History course -part of my CCS course at Kent Uni- and it was only two hours per week, and at Christmas I was sent a cheque for £60.00 towards my travel/books expenses. I am registered dis-abled as I have osteo-arthritis so I don't know if that made a difference or not.I hadn't even applied for this grant. I am also an O.A.P into the bargain.By the way I thouroughly enjoyed the course and hope to start the second module this September. If it's there and available I guess you have nothing to lose by applying for it0 -

"not available for first years aparently" That is a complete & utter lie that you have been told. Yes priority is given to final year students but the fund is open to any student. I would question this at your student Advice Centre & appeal the decision - did they reply in writing?
Keep me posted please - it'll be interesting to see how this goes.
If you have any questions, just let me know.0
