I'd like to think I'm getting organised -well I am but really I'm concentrating on sons partners birthday (Sept.) and my friends in November.
Sons partner is more or less sorted...........door hanger done and flannel cake (Thanks to flourgirl:T)
Have done my little pots of coffee mixes now...........found a gold box to put them in, added some spare chocolate sprinkles I'd got, a few serviettes with Coffee on them and a little booklet explaining what they are, ingredients etc. All tied up with a dark brown ribbon and a bow...............makes something that cost next to nothing look a lot more.............just hope receipient isn't disappointed................:rotfl:
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

I must admit I have not read through the wholeof this thread, and I would like to but I really don't have time, plus I can't sit at the PC for long periods due to my leg pain.

I'm interested in the ideas and gifts that people are mentioning i.e the sock monkey, flannel cake, snowman soups etc, but I have no idea what they are. Would it be possible to have a link to show how they are made etc?

    Hi,
Can i be cheeky and ask you what the coffee mixes are and some instructions etc for them? i,m wondering if this is what i,ve seen in other threads and got it mixed up and thought it was another version of Snowman Soup--as most of my family drink coffee and some don,t like Hot Chocolate doing some type of coffee drink would be ideal--but not been very crafty i always need a fools guide on how to do it all lol

[when does everyone start making their christmas cakes? I usually do mine end of october, then spend the 7 or 8 weeks leading up to xmas injecting it with all sorts of alcohol!!

    sue :rotfl:]

As I'm a teacher and the first term of the school year is always the busiest time, I have to own up to making MY Christmas cakes in the summer holidays! In fact, I really had planned to do 3 of them today but it is WAY too hot to have the oven on for over 3 hrs. It's A-level results tomorrow so when I get back from going in to school to see the students with their results, I'll get stuck in to some serious Christmas preparations.. while the cakes are in the oven, I can get on with a patchwork cushion cover that I'm doing with alternate plain green squares and holly leaf squares. Feeling Festive on a really hot August day and am LOVING it!:D

Money maker – I’m going to be ordering that Scene it game too. We have quite a few Scene it games already at home, including one of the earlier Harry P ones, so we’re going to wait until all the films have been out before getting ourselves a new HP Scene it (we LOVE board games)! Otherwise we’ll just want to keep getting the updates versions every year! But we’re going to get one for my SIL who also likes the films and enjoys a board game every now and again! At that price, why not. Saying that, the price they say it should be sold at is SILLY!! (£40 for a board game?!?!)

Oooo while I talk of board games, there’s a new Monopoly out called City or something – it’s £15 in ASDA at the moment which aint bad. And if anyone likes Monopoly but would like to play one with a twist, try and get hold of Tropical Tycoon Monopoly – I think they’ve recently stopped making it, but we bought it from Home Bargains (I think it was…..) last year for £7! I’m sure you could probably find it online for a similar price….. It’s really one of the better alternative Monopolies.

And I won’t get started on Cluedo (OMG, I LOVE cluedo!! Lol), but I will recommend for Harry Potter lovers, the Harry Potter Cluedo! Great fun and a good twist on an old classic!

Phew, sorry, I get over excited with board games. I keep telling hubby that he’s lucky it’s board games I get excited about rather than handbags or shoes!! Lol

    Hello to all newbies!!

Oh, and I bought mince pies yesterday...yummy!!

Thanks for the heads up about Tropical Tycoon Monopoly - looks like a great twist on a game we all love. Will keep an eye out for price drops in the next couple of months.

Just considering the Sharpe Complete series (14 disc) boxset for DH at the mo, £17.99 from HMV in case anyone else is interested.

DS1 & DS2 make our Christmas cake then I let them and DH battle it out as they attempt to marzipan and ice it. Needless to say, I stay well away from the kitchen for a few hours...

    Guys

Any idea what the best board games are that an 8 year old and a 5 year old could play??

My two (well step son and my son) are forever sat either in front of the TV or playing on their DS's - they do play together but it always ends in arguments because one doesn't want to be the bad guy, they want the same character etc so I figure board games are maybe a good way to go.

I'm thinking along the lines of a children's trivial pursuit - maybe the Disney one.

    Possibly monopoly

    Possibly Staying Alive

I'm sick of seeing them sat doing nothing all day but plonked in front of a TV.

My step sons mother has......um.........'body issues' as she calls it (lazy i call it) so wont go outside the house - example her sons school is a ten minute walk down a slight hill (its about 20 yards to the bottom from her door) yet someone picks him up from her door and takes him and delivers him home and he doesn't have a dentist despite their being one at the bottom of the hill so he's now registered in ours which is 45 minutes from their house! . Anyway back to the subject - in his house he's in front of the tv, wii or DS all day and he's a smart boy so I'd like to get him more into real games but want them to be able to play together and what better time to get started than Xmas - all sat round under the tree playing a board game . :T

Think this has been mentioned before, but anyone looking for cheap board games pop into your local charity shop. I got 3 MB games (Twister, Downfall and Mousetrap) and a Harry Potter board game for just short of £10 from one of my local charity shops (I'm lucky cause we have 5 in our small village/town) all in excellent condition with no bits missing and the boxes are in very good condition. These would have cost £30/£40 in total if I bought them new.
