  • Welcome to the thread! We are all a few slices short of a Christmas fruit cake in here about Xmas so im sure you'll fit straight in!

yippee kye yay - well you should be glad you haveus then! :grouphug: (thats a very dodgy looking hug isnt it?) but you get the jist. and my mother in law is the same - she laughs at me cos i carry a little notebook in my bag from about now onwards and if she mentions anything little then I scribble it down in there - like she mentioned her family tree a few years ago but was really upset she couldn't find anything, so i did it for her , got all 4 lines back to the 1700's but she was so disheartened by no leads that I gave it to her before Xmas and she burst into tears. She mentioned once that her nan use to give her wool fleece gloves too so think i might make her a nice bits hamper and add a pair of those for her. Now need a bit of trickery to find out how big her hands are though so i get the right size! :D

very glad to have you lot! you meet my needs:D

with the gloves can you not buy some standard sized gloves from a shop to use as a template then return them when you've finished?
or buy some gloves and ask her to try them on as you'd like to see them on some else as your not sure you like them?
failing that buy yourself a swag bag and a crow bar - your gonna have to break in

p.s i always thought that hug was a little suspicious!!

    p.p.s welcome to all newbies

Just thought I'd pop back in again to this thread.

Just ordered Darling Buds of May (6 dvd complete series) @ £8.99 from HMV - whole family loves this but ideal present for DH.

Last night ordered the Scene It Harry Potter (2nd edition) for £7.00 from Amazon - great for my DS2.

The small seed tin is on special from John Lewis at the moment. Had a couple delivered last week in a different colour and they will be ideal for MIL. £2.40 each - ordered 2 more (free postage).

Anyone in Devon/Cornwall - Trago is amazing for Christmas bits. Fantastic range of cardmaking accessories. The fishing department has about four or five boxes suitable for the retro sweet boxes - dont look in the diy or craft dept as they are dearer!

If its any consolation - my family think I'm nuts too...

It is a bit awkward with kiddies but I find if I sit down and preoccupy him with something - like a game/book etc - although at the minute his favourite is a den made with a sheet and my washing airer and a few biscuits for him and his toys - and if its in front of the tv and a kids channel happens to be on im good fro about an hour. (but hes 5) then I can easily make a list of people i need to buy for.

I've just done my Xmas card list - 90+ people to send to and am hoping that I can get ben involved in it with at least some - family members Im hoping to get him hand painting some of them - going to see if we can get a reindeer from little hand prints onto the cards!

I find the best time for me is when I've put Ben to bed is to tidy round the living room roughly, then sit down with a nice cup of tea. or even when your in the bath just sit and think about it. have also done it before Ive gone to bed and some people its worn me out entirely trying to think of a present for them.

YIPPEE - no need to break in! I have a key and the dog never barks when I go in - goes nuts when everyone else enters but barely moves when I go in. so I end up  everyone cos they turn round and Im stood in the doorway and they've never heard me go in in the first place.
    Time to find me again
  • Well I spent last night wrapping presents! Had too many bags in my bedroom taking over the space so have wrapped them up, and they can go in the loft. :D

I also started my first ever sock monkey, as I am making two of these as gifts forthe two toddlers of the family. Am making the first one a trial one though - it has black and red stripes and DS has already expressed an interest in it and assumes it's for him!

I am a llist maker, so often sit with my meal/cuppa writing lists (DP is used to me by now), and do bits and bobs when DS is asleep.
It is only a bargain if you need it!

When it comes to crafty items - i sit down and do something and the kids are sat at the table with me doing something of their own.

When it comes to shopping the internet is a god send, but if i have to go out shopping a few white lies are a must. Along with child x-ray proof carrier bags.

But they key is ORGANISATION, keep lists in a book, that way you know who your buying for and what your keeping your eyes open for.

Write down all ideas you have. I have loads of things i'd like to make but once i have bought the base materials , it sometimes works out to expensive to make if i'm just making 1 or 2.

When you have bought something i use a highlighter to cross it off my list, makes my xmas book look really colourful and helps me to feel like i am making massive progress.
