I text my nephew (17yrs) asking what he'd like for Christmas. This is the reply I got -
"I'm not really into anything lol I do drama and like writing scripts if that helps lol but I always like the surprise of what you get me cos its always something different lol"

I was so chuffed that he likes the stuff I've brought him before :D but now I kind of feel pressure to do just as well this time :o but I need help with ideas

What do you buy a 17 year old lad who's not really into anything but likes drama and script writing??
It was easier buying his girlfriend's present!!

can't help you but wanted to say well done for buying great presents in the past, my brother in law and sister in law always buy my two brilliant presents not an easy feat when my two are 17 and 20 and even I don't attempt to buy them clothes etc so well done for being on a 17 year old boys wavelength I know how difficult that can be
  • sunrise........... what about a nice writing set (but not as in an old lady type set). pens, pencils, nice (teenagey) notepads. depends on how much you want to spend you could put this book - "the complete guide to scriptwriting" in .

I've only done a quick search so you may find it cheaper elsewhere.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:
  • I really need to get on with christmas shopping, but I have absolutely no money, and to make matters worse my partners clutch cable snapped yesterday. Only cost £40 for a new one, but it didnt help :(!
I have noticed not many people have been writing down their bargains, have you all finished already???!!

  • Fenwicks in Newcastle have an offer on Philip kingsley hair care. You get the 3 step hair care sachets for the price of one i.e 1 sachet on its own is usually £3.20 however you can get the Shampoo, Elasticizer and Conditioner for the same price!

Nothing amazing but as a stocking filler it's a nice little addition (if of course you don't use it yourself first, I bought it as a filler for my daughter but decided to try it myself and am very pleased indeed!)

The BBC has an excellent website called The Writer's Room which has lots of ideas and tips for people who are interested in script writing. Maybe you could print out a selection of articles (there's advice on writing copmedy, drama, radioo plays and all sorts of things) and put them together in a note book for him?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/writing/tips.shtml

A big photo album might be a good idea too, so that he can put not just pictures in in, but theatre programmes etc from shows and other productions he goes to see. You could personalise the front of it with 'There's no business like show business' or something :)

My OH works in the film industry and the best book you can get about scriptwriting is Syd Field's. For a cheap present you can download some famous scripts and print them off and bind them for him, reading scripts is a really good exercise for any aspiring writer. To bulk up this pressie you could add a DVD. I also know the standard software is called Final Draft I don't know if you need to pay for it or not though but that could be another idea.

I'm a writer also - how about cinema tickets/passes? Always a useful pressie. Or you could make up a film hamper with some classic movies and treats - trouble is knowing what he has or hasnt got already. or theatre tickets if he likes drama - I can recommned the play Punk Rock for his age group. Or I'm sure you could find something suitable on at the west end - blood brothers? avenue q? chicago? shawshank redemption??
Failing that - and depending on what he's doing already/how much you want to spend - how about sending him on a scriptwriting shortcourse. Not sure where you are based but a big arts centre near me runs 4 week course at £40.
