I haven't even sown my Kale yet.
What! Get a move on woman :p Mines already 8 feet high :D

I've never heard of the horsetail treatment before, would you please keep us updated covgirl, to see if it works. Luckily I haven't got horsetail in the garden, but there is some up the road in the hedge. Don't worry, I have every other type of invasive weed :D

I saw no less than three ladybirds yesterday, that's more than I have seen the rest of the year put together, they were all on nettles.

lilmiss, I have to clear a bed or two of cat poo also, my cat as well  she's only got 2 litter trays outside, you'd think that would be enough, oh no, not for my pooping machine.

Praying for more rain here, we had a short shower yesterday and that's more or less been it for weeks.

We are almost overwhelmed with soft fruit atm, trying to think of new and novel ways of dealing with it.

Have a nice weekend everyone, good gardening and all that.

No Horsetail - whatever next.

I can pop you some over if you like - we've got plenty.

Mine would never last long enough to make it to horsetail potion; the OH struts around whenever he is at the lottie pulling it out - I think he takes it personally when it grows back. Only when he has got the lot out does he think about his next job.

I don't mind it as much as other weeds, bindweed I hate as it strangles everything else.

Got to sort the greenhouse out today - since we had the torrential rain, everything has gone mental and I need to add more string to tie up the cukes and toms as they are now growing up the sloping sides towards the roof. YAY for greenhouses. :T

What greenhouse did you get? I'm always afraid to tie my toms up mine, as the extra weight when they fruit must be massive,

Tis a wooden one from a bloke in Chesterfield. Well, wooden frame with glass windows :D

It's good because I can drill holes and put hooks in to tie things to it, and I've put shelves up for the peppers.

  • Hiya, just thought I would post about my harvest so far this year.

Year old strawberry plants that produced very little last year have come into thier own this. Have picked about 2 kg so far and still going strong, Have made a few pots of jam, freezing the strawbs until I had enough. Jam making was ridiculously easy with the jam sugar from supermarket, Now have 4lb+ of strawberry jam. Have started freezing them again for second batch.

Potatoes in pots and bags have done well, have had enough from each bag so far for 1 - 2 feeds depending on the size of bag (some had one seed pot, others had 3).

Raspberries not doing too well at all, will cut down to the ground in Autumn and hope for better next year.

Have started picking the carrots, with varying degrees of success so far. Not enough for a full feed yet!

Pea pods are there and starting to slowly swell, all going well will be giving Captain Birdseye a run for his money for a couple of days soon.

Outdoor toms seem to being doing just as well as the greenhouse ones at the mo, although all are still green.

Courgettes are just starting to show.

This is only the second year of growing "properly" (always had a go every so often, but never on this scale) and am more than happ with results. Still an awful lot to learn, but all good fun.
  • hi all, how lovely to let nature water the pots instead of me. I'll just sit a while in the shade of this cosy and welcoming potting shed until the cloud passes. A lemonade would be lovely, can I offer anyone some strawberry scones ...well it is wimbledon.

hoping to nip to Home Bargains tomorrow I hear from Petunia over the fence that they have Wilkinson Sword Garden rakes, leaf rakes (is that what they are?);£3.99 each pruners £?, snippy things £1.99, scoops about 60p, planting trowel £?, while stocks last. :T

ooh was that a roll of thunder ... or just applause for the great bargain I have shared?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I have still got some left in the freezer from last year :o

Any how can't get out in the garden and do much because the fledgling blackbird is still out here being feed by mum and dad. It has moved again and is now right next to my raised bed and pots of runners ARGHHHHHHHHHH. I want to go out and water but don't want to to upset the baby bird.

I now have 13 cucumbers at various stages of growth :j

I want my other raised bed. I want to plant more stuff out.

    Yours
