We've had so much rain in the Highlands that I'm beginning to think I'm part of some big coverup like in the film The Truman Show and this isn't summer at all , it's really Autumn going into winter. :undecided The weather forecast for the next 10 days is rain, rain and more rain.Herman - MP for all!0

Blimey I left the rotating sprinkler thingy going last night for about three hours!. I totally forgot about it, damn football!. When I eventually turned it off the water was just laying on the surface even after I had pronged the grass. I went out to see it this morning and its still not seeped through some ten hours later!. Out with the fork I go.0

scrunger - I have the opposite problem. I've been watering every evening this past week of hot weather and even watering at that time when there's less evaporation the water seems to go nowhere. We have very light soil (although I do dig compost in) and even a few hours after watering in this heat the soil is still as dry as dust again about one inch below the surface. I'm surprised that my vegetables are still surviving, yet they seem to be. I'm just hoping that the compost I dug in lower down is retaining some moisture.0

Hey everyone.
Been a busy non-gardening week here, so not had much chance to anything other than water in the greenhouse and constantly pick up pots that get blown over by the wind. Been really windy here all week, and fairly wet too. The joys of Scotland!
I have managed to harvest 4 cucumbers though, very exciting.
I was in the supermarket and Gardener's World fell into the trolley (ahem), and what did I find inside? A J Parkers Autumn catalogue! Had a quick flick so far, seem to be some not bad offers as usual. Looks like they've updated the website too, so I'll spend a happy hour or two on their later. I'm going to compare the prices of what I want to T&M seeing as I have vouchers for there still. Trying VERY hard to be restrained. Mummy to an amazing little girl0 -
DH has finished the mass cutting back of the privet. It was way to wide and way too high, it is now way too bare but that will rectify hopefully by the end of next year. It will be much easier to deal with.
Did my watering at 6:30 this morning! Deheading is the order of the day tomorrow. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -

Wheres the sun gone? Im not complaining though, its been too hot for me an the dog. My neighbour has lots of lavender on my side of his house and it smells lovely, trouble is there are swarms of bumble bees amongst them. The wife has to make a run to the car and dive in head first!. Central locking does have its benefits.:)0

I've just picked my first handful of ripe outdoor tomatoes - from my Tumbling varieties which always seem to ripen ahead of the upright plants. But interestingly this year, my Tumbling yellow tomatoes are almost orange in colour rather than the yellow they were last year. As the plants were raised from saved seed I'm wondering if the original plants I bought 3 years ago were F1 varieties. The two Tumbling Yellow plants I've got this year are widely different - one is a loosely spreading bush with larger fruits, the other is a tightly leaved plant with smaller fruit. The red tumblers are not all the same either. Quite interesting these experiments with saved seeds!. You never quite know what you're going to get!0
