    Hello one and all

I hope you have all seen some sunshine today. Only gardening I've done is repotting some of my house plants. I know it's not spring yet but they are desperate and I have the time now. A few more to do tomorrow.

I got a great bargain on a Tomcot Apricot tree last week at the garden centre. It had grown quite crooked where they strap them to those fence bars to stop them from falling over. I spoke to the assistant and he reduced it to half price (£18 instead of £36) so I was very happy. It will need a prune when I plant it to regain it's shape but I'm sure it will be fine.

I need to move my olive tree, to plant the apricot. The Olive is not happy where it is even though it is in full sun. I think the last couple of winters have just been too cold for it. I'm going to try it in the front garden - would now be a good time to move it? It is usually April before it attempts to grow any new leaves.

    HI Dusty

Was wondering where you had got to!! :rotfl::rotfl:

If you've got to move it it's better to do it now while it's fairly dormant, provided its new location in the front garden isn't waterlogged, or when the ground is frozen. Just make sure it is heeled in really well and that if we have a sudden dry spell, the roots are kept well watered until it has re-established itself. Try also to make sure that it's new location isn't where it can catch the sun first thing immediately after a frost because like camelias, this could damage it.

Hi Kaz, feed up of flying at the moment so my attention (short that it is) has turned to the great outdoors.

    How's the walking wounded?

Gone back to work! (the dr gave him a fit note, or what ever they are called, but he is on 'light' duties! which mainly seems to be sat at a desk doing paperwork! and he hates it.

    Thank you for asking

Well I do finally think the nights are getting a little lighter here!

Please can i pop my head round the shed door. I've got biscuits, honest. Please can i ask advice,
I built 2 raised beds last year but only planted one bed with potatoes. One of the beds is soaking in one corner just under the soil due to a soakaway that is underground and couldn't be avoided. Hence to say the potatoes were no good in this corner.( north facing) Would anything grow where the roots get so much moisture. Also if i just use tubs for potatoes how do i rotate the 2 beds i have got as i have only seen a minimum of 3 bed rotation or do i build a third bed. I have a long raised flower bed 100 ft long in my front south facing garden and do wonder if i can use it as the idiot neighbour has 40ft conifers that suck moisture and goodness from my soil along a 3rd of it, sorry for the long first post.

I like the sound of the welsh onions ,going to give them a go this year on my allotment.I have been on the allotment twice this week ,warm whilst working ,got some straw manure that had been left by the gate ,I am going to try a hot box from it as I have no greenhouse (wish) and no light growing space at home.
Made a pannetone in my breadmaker so anyone up for a cup of tea or coffee.
  • Hi

I hope you enjoy growing them.... If I remember correctly, they are very like a spring onion... but really useful as you can pick them as you need them... , they tend to go to seed the following year... So I'd look for young shoots to keep for that year...

    Hope this helps

I'll get a piece of panetone when I come by....

    Cheers
