SeptemberWhen the rate was much higher I would order about half of it in advance from Crown Currency Exchange. Once that had run out I withdraw from ATM's using my Nationwide FlexAccount card. It give you the full Interbank rate, not the tourist rate, only costs a $1 fee if withdrawn at Casino Royale and no other fees. Othe cards can have quite high fees as well as the rate being loaded by about 2.75%.
I got $2.11 at one point last year when the tourist rate was around $1.96.
I use my Nationwide credit card for purchases in shops, restaurants and for buying show tickets once I'm there.
I haven't bothered ordering currency in advance for our next trip as the rate has been so volatile so I am happy to accept the rate I get at the ATM.0 -
Hi
I'm off to Vegas next month , can't wait :j
On the way back we fly from VEGAS to Huston for around Midnight and then don't fly back home till 4pm the following afternoon.
So I'm thinking it's probably best to book a room near to Huston airport
My question is , has anyone done the same
If so can you advise a decent place to stay , not too far the airport
Any tips / advice would be great . Thanks0 -
Hey Guys!
Just have a quick question about Vegas and didnt want to have to trawl through the thread to find the answer!
I am planning on getting married in Vegas in the next couple of years and we are currently trying to decide the best time to go.
We are thinking April, but just wondered if this is a good time go? price, weather etc?
If not when is the best time to go?
Thanks in advance!!

Best time to go is of course all personal , some people might like 40c+ temps . however when we went in April we had nice but not overpowering weather .
Price should be good for flights as long as you avoid Easter ect . and as for rooms should be no problem price wise as long as you avoid any big conventions , events ( none instantly spring to mind as regards April )Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -
Vegas......change sterling to dollars here, using Crown (free delivery) or Thomas Exchange Group (£5 delivery) if time, and Travelex pricematch to those two for airport pickup. Dont use ATMs there......always charge you, plus poor rate. Also dont use credit cards......use your cash. Any decent hotel there has a roomsafe.
i was planning on paying for things on the abbey zero card as reccomendded on mse travel money
would people now say not to do that?0 -

I think that's fine...so long as you pay in USD and not GBP as I'm sure you know.
For us, we bring about 1/2 in cash (exchanged at TEG or LinkFX in London so good rates), the rest of our spending money is normally loaded into our Nationwide account for withdrawal as and when. We charge some things to the Post Office credit card as well. Next trip we're considering taking less in cash and loading more on a FairFX card since the rates are normally better than we can get at TEG or LinkFX and less faffing about and less cash to carry. We're not yet comfortable using a FairFX card for the bulk of our spending money though as if something goes wrong, it could be a real downer.
I don't mind paying ATM fees in Vegas occasionally - we will usually try to minimize them by using ATMs at WalMart, etc. where there's no charge...but in some cases we do pay the $4.99 at Bally's just for the convenience of getting the money out and taking it straight to our room.
We do allocate a fair amount to gambling each day so Nationwide's £300/day withdrawal limit isn't enough for the two of us if we hit a bad patch - which is why we normally bring a good lump of cash to get us going.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

The NAB convention is in April and is one to avoid. However I see that next year there are *only* 87000 conventioneers where it's normally about 115000. It's from the 12-15 April.
You can check conventions here:

You will need to put www in front as I can't post links yet.0 -
Following on from tully's question....how do most of you take your money to Vegas?
debit cards and draw your cash from atms?...take sterling and change it there?....change sterling to dollars here?
do you get a good exchange rate when drawing money out of atms?
or do you just take $100 and rely on a good win at the tables :-)
we take a mixture of cash purchased using Travelex's price match promise , a Nationwide debit card for Cash withdrawals and a Post office Credit card for general shopping .
The Nationwide are now going to start charging for ATM withdrawals overseas i hear so might need to read up here before next time , but i think the Nationwide Flex account card still works out a good bet .
